Ole - Lingard and strikers

Yesterday was a mixed bag. Win, clean sheet against full strength city team away. Did not make the finals, lots of players fell flat on their faces when they needed to step up (Martial, I'm looking at you).

Anyways a few things from yesterday where interesting to me.

1. Ole losing his normal calm on Lingard. Don't think I've seen it from him before. Warned him he was taking him off, it was hilarious. I'm sure many wanted to see that.

2. On strikers, he said " I want a striker who wants to break his nose to score a goal" seems like a dig at martial, or a cry for a striker. Either way, it's a good sign.

Now he could have been doing both things behind the scenes (yelling at shiiiiity players and asking for more ED and his strikers), But it was welcome to see. I do prefer his calm because to me public outbursts have never been useful to me in a football team except to placate fans it's good to see it's there.

Imagine being satisfied that we only lost by one goal.

Roy Keane would be fuming.

Now you’re getting personal just because I don’t really take many positives from last night.

i dont many positives from last night either, we lost over 2 legs.

but despite what city did, we hung in and gave ourselves at least a shot at reaching a final that many gave us no hope of reaching.

it wasnt a great performance, especially going forward, but you cant deny the effort put in by the majority of the players, something that has been lacking all too often at times

Absolutely the effort was there and that was good. Too often I’ve seen no effort on the pitch. But at no point last night did I feel we’d go through.

Sadly the tie was lost in that first leg

up until the free kick in the last minute neither did i... but hanging in and putting bodies on the line meant that when that chance came about there was at least a chance.... just a shame fred took it

effort is not all that is required. It should be a given that the effort is there.

I may be completely wrong, as it's just my observation - but I think Martial is a different and much better player when he's paired up with Marcus. I think they work well as a pair, and Marcus most likely will light Tony up if he's facking off. With Lingard and Mason working with him, he went into sulk mode (not a hit on mason - he's just not been with the first team long enough and on the regular basis). We have a few key players that make those around them play at a higher level - and those lads are out right now. I count Rashford and Scott, and even Pogba in that few.

Rashford and Martial both look better when they’re together. Rashford was looking so good before his injury that it’s easy to forget how much he was struggling earlier in the season - when Martial was injured.
