I don't read Newspapers and as I live in Ireland have a decent appreciation of the European view. All sorts of problems lie ahead and the idea of striking a robust trade deal in 11 months is madness. Fisheries alone will take years to agree. British right wing arrogance and public school boy attitudes will not work in the 21st Century.

None of which prevents a base framework from which high sides can take time to work out a deal. Years of need be. There will be no cliff edge WTO on 1st January 2021 whether there’s a deal or not.

Forget this they can take the hurt more than we can garbage. No side wants tariffs but I believe both sides will accept them in a number of areas.

Does anyone believe on the 2nd January that if there is no signed deal that the ports will all hold up goods backwards and forwards until tariffs are paid and the U.K. will put the navy out to protect our fishing waters?

i'm not saying that - just pointing out that right wing bullish 'up & at 'em' attitudes will not wash with an economy massively bigger than Britain's. Still, I'm too old for it to matter too much- just fear for the younger generations who will have to live with the consequences of Brexit for many years to come.

I know Ging but I've found the last 3/4 years in politics really frustrating - not just in Britain but world wide. can't help thinking we're walking straight into a deja vu situation, only this time its not trenches and air raids we have to worry about

The political world we live in bears no resemblance to the integral one we had years ago. Whatever politicians beliefs they did their best for scant reward.

Now it’s just soundbites, tv and radio appearances then the next scandal before the inevitable book. Turgid and awful.

I really think that a massive problem is the detachment politicians have from the real world. The average Tory Old Etonian has no comprehension of poverty, societal breakdown etc. They are intelligent in that they will use those issues as and when but in reality its off to the Caribbean for holidays etc. The only reason these people are in politics is for power, the money is insignificant.
