Is there a case for shutting down

football in the UK for the next six months to contain the Coronavirus. Makes sense really call it off for this season, and restart next season. Shame for all those clubs that are leading their divisions, but the health of the nation must surely come before any football match. The League would be expunged from records, similar to when the two world wars started.

With the first cases of the virus already beginning to appear in the UK, I can definitely see the Health Authorities taking some dramatic measures to contain this very virulent virus.

Thoughts.

I think we will win the league before the FA shuts the league down.

Thing is though, folks in Liverpool will be immune from Coronavirus, so you might as well just award them the title which they’ve earned. You could nuke Britain and the only things left would be Keith Richards, cockroaches and the mutant hoards of Liverpool.

This may be the reason why Keith cannot be killed by conventional weapons.

Well then, Sandy, Australia and USA have already closed their borders to foreign travelers who have visited China.
Citizens returning are subject to 14 days quarantine.
Doubtless other countries will follow suit.
The numbers coming out of China are grossly underestimated - e.g., some estimates put the number of infected in Wuhan at 75,000.
So the upshot would be any foreign team visiting UK will be put in Quarantine for 14 days. That would end the CL this season.

Now about crowds and local matches. If there is a ban on gatherings in the UK - as there is in China where even weddings are not allowed in some areas - then all football matches would be cancelled.

As in most things, Governments are usually slow to act and close the barn door after the horse has bolted.
If the UK quarantine measures are inadequate, then local infections will rise, the NHS will be inundated, and Boris will be forced to do something. Expect the drastic..... eventually!
So maybe the FA should act first?

Oh yes, and old boy ... this thing knocks off old people first!

Note: "quarantine" from the Italian "quaranta", or forty, thence "quarantina", the number of days Venice forced returning ships to stay out of port during the Black Death.

It`s getting more serious now. So I reckon it will be only a matter of time before all sporting events are shut down. I am really surprised the Government have been so slow in acting.

You would hope they are doing something by way of planning, and that not all their attention is focused on big ben bongs, and withdrawal deals. Banning large public gatherings has been very effective limiting cases in previous pandemics.
