No, I didnt make that out at all. The same applies for many people having a conversation with each other, for the question you didnt answer. What is making a person feel uncomfortable when people are talking to each other, involved in a conversion which isn't meant for that person? I mean, I assume they don't speak Polish to the native English speaker?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We're talking about if the environment is continually like that over days or weeks or however long it was. Being around people who talk their own language and you're left outside of their bubble. You don't think that would make someone feel uncomfortable?
If you do not then fine, differences of opinion I guess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
People will do that if they want, regardless of what language they speak and it will still make you uncomfortable. In my life I've experienced this without foreign language speakers being involved.
Not being funny but if these guys are making no effort to converse or get buddy buddy with you perhaps there could be other regular reasons you are "left out of the bubble".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know if you are talking to me like this is my own experience as it isn't.
Don't know why you're seeing this as a strange concept. Kind of obvious it's a matter of how easily you can manage to fit in with a crowd, and yes it could be through other circumstances and not a language barrier, but that is certainly one thing you wouldn't ordinarily expect for someone working in this country. Apparently now it can be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"ordinarily expect for someone working in this country."
That's where the niggle is IMO. An irrational expectation certain to lead to frustration. In this day and age, it should be expected because that's the way it is. You can't deny the reality of the world you live in, which has been heavily impacted by the UK to become what it is today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wouldn't say it's irrational. I know the UK has changed a lot over the years and there has been an increase in immigrants but not to the extent that you might expect the language barrier to be a problem at your place of work if you are a native English speaker.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
FFS how many places are there where this is a problem?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Boston-I know someone who worked in the B&M warehouse, he was a shift manager. He left because he felt uncomfortable when giving direction to his staff, they would often start conversing in Polish then start laughing. I don't care who you are, this would eventually make one paranoid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If my employees were conversing in English and then laughing after I'd given them instruction I'd get rid of them. I'm not sure what language has to do with anything here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you for real, you can’t sack someone for laughing when you haven’t a clue what they’ve said, xenophobia would most definitely be brought up, it’s different if they were speaking English.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course you can. You've given instruction and instead of following it they've began talking and laughing. I've sacked people for less. Still not sure what language has to do with this.
Really it sounds like a scenario somebody has made up as it's their best attempt at finding something which may not appear xenophobic but still allow them to be against people speaking to each other, in their own language.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You must be a window cleaner because there's no way you could sack someone for merely laughing, especially if they're foreign or a minority. Any government department or large organisation are terrified of being branded, racist.

I once sacked a guy for repeatedly saying he used to manage somewhere, every time I gave him something to do, as if to say what I was asking him was beneath him. I basically sacked him for being an arrogant tw@.
I said that's less than somebody laughing when you ask them to do something.

The offence has been downgraded to mere laughing now.

You're not exactly full of reasoned substance, but have to admit that TOOR's claim seems to have some pretty big holes in it.
