The mid season break is just an

excuse for all 10 games to be shown live on TV. Completely nonsensical break, in reality just a money making exercise. What possible benefit is it really to either players or supporters this farcical break? A lot of clubs ae involved in cup replays this week anyway.

Just get on and do what you are paid to do play football during the football season.

Think the timing of the break is clearly intended to benefit the clubs involved in European competition.

The other major leagues' winter break is 'round about the half-way mark of their domestic season; the PL's is set with about a third of the league season remaining.

The break gives PL clubs that are involved in Europe the opportunity to rest their squads, avoid further injuries and recover players nursing minor knocks. They then get a first competitive match to get back up to speed just before the 1st leg of the CL/EL knockout rounds kicks in.

It seems like a smart idea for furthering the aims of the PL as the dominant force in Europe. Whether the break actually works to their benefit or backfires remains to be seen, but on paper it makes sense.

DO they train in these 2 weeks or all just p-off on holiday?

They can't afford to stop altogether, a pro sportsmen's bodies need to be finely tuned and such a long break would mean it would then take them a fair bit of conditioning to get match fit again. My guess is they'll get a few (3-4?) days off and then back to training, maybe in warmer climes.

If they train, train, train, there is probably a big risk of further injuries, if they go on holiday, then would be a complete waste of time, because they would then come back unfit.

As I said a complete waste of time.

Do a proper winter break and give them all 10 days off at the same time

I think JA606 should have a mid winter break.

Someone who began training in July and continued for the next 6 months will not lose fitness over 3 or 4 days. I'd say a full 10 days off (Sun - Tues) followed by 3 days training and there would be no drop in fitness levels and perhaps even greater amounts of energy!

Those with a replay this week might get 5 or 6 clear days break, those with no replay, or those who choose to totally disrespect the worlds oldest and greatest cup competition, will get 10 days rest!

While the season is in full swing, let the fans enjoy the game as much as possible and as often as possible. Fans turn out us high and clubs have enough in the coffers to have a decent first team and backups too.
Our game isn’t as nasty as per South American ones fir example a hardly I think it necessitates such a long break. Long by our standards.
I am glad we do still have done premier league footy in between?
Only when the internationals are on, you realise how much premier league footy one misses😝
