Week 12

Chelsea vs. Portsmouth

Two form teams met at Stamford Bridge and the visitors started strong and controlled the midfield with their diamond, Fabian and Bruno combining well on many occasions, but van Dijk and Lenglet dealt well with DLC and Ronaldo to absorb the early pressure. Ndidi won the ball off DLC and played a short pass to Tielemans, who fed Neymar with a nice through ball, the Brazilian swept in between AWB and Sule to finish beautifully. The rest of the game played out with both teams having spells of control but neither managing to make a breakthrough. Portsmouth lacked inspiration and unpredictability in their midfield and attack consisting of quite similar personnel. Chelsea not at their best but had the quality defensively as much as in attack with Neymar’s moment of magic to win the game.

Chelsea 1-0 Portsmouth
Neymar (Tielemans), 32

Tottenham vs. Manchester City

Spurs came into this game unbeaten and in great form, Man City have had mixed fortunes lately but came into this game with a well-balanced side. Their two wide men Gnabry and Bergwijn caused great problems for Spurs early doors, who lacked defensive protection from Eriksen and Asensio and Felix outwide. City took the lead through debutant Bergwijn who picked up on a Zakaria through ball 1-0. That goal riled Spurs into gear and KDB took charge a long range effort followed by a great through ball to Aguero who lobbed Reina. 2-1 to the home side. The game then slowed up again with Spurs playing quite slow and patiently as City remained rigid despite the score. The game sparked into life again with just over 10 minutes to go when Rudiger’s header was saved by Courtois, only to drop to him for a second time, this time he made no mistake and slotted the ball home. 2-2. After this the game was end to end and both teams made changes. In the final moments of the game, Chiesa whipped a wicked ball in, Umtiti tripped over the ball whilst trying to clear it and the ball fell to Lukaku who slammed the ball into the roof of the net. Incredible scenes, Spurs weren’t at their best but were still unlucky, but City will be jubilant to stop Spurs especially away from home.

Tottenham 2-3 Manchester City
Bergwijn (Zakaria), 9 – Rudiger, 78 - Lukaku (Chiesa) 90+4
De Bruyne, 18 - Aguero (De Bruyne), 21

Bit of a shock result there, Spurs still had more slots despite late tactics -slot, and City setup was good vs. some spurs weaknesses so gave them a chance and they came out the generator!
