Best debut goal?

Great win the other day - really enjoyable - and not least because of Steven Bergwijn's lovely goal and all-round promising performance. I'll be honest, I had no real idea who he was until we signed him, but he looks a player.

Was his goal the best goal scored on a Spurs debut, though?

Here are some other debut goals from the not too distant past which would also have a claim.

Eric Dier versus West Ham, 2014-15 season - the start of the Poch era, and what a great way to kick things off. Down to 10 men after Kyle Naughton had been sent off for a handball on the line, Lloris saved Noble's penalty and then we snatched the win at the end courtesy of our new signing Eric Dier (another player not many had heard of), who was filling in at right-back.

Kane, who had started to force his way into the first team under Sherwood in the latter stages of the previous season, found him with a beautifully weighted pass and Dier showed the composure and poise of a seasoned striker to round the West Ham goalie and place into the net. Perfect.

Danny Rose versus Arsenal, 2009-10 season - Mr Rose made himself an instant Tottenham legend with that absolute barnstormer of a goal. From a long way out, he absolutely walloped the ball past Almunia after a corner had been half-cleared. The celebration - running around wildly, unsure quite what to do - the sense of shock, and the early nature of the goal made it special.

In hindsight, keeper should have probably done better, but it was a hell of a strike and set us on our way to our first win over the old enemy in a very long time. It also gave us the momentum to get 4th place for the first time as we followed up that victory with an excellent 2-1 win over a Chelsea team who won the league and the memorable win at the Etihad thanks to Crouchy's head.

Jermain Defoe versus Portsmouth, 2003-4 season - the diminutive Spurs legend marked his debut with a typically explosive goal against Pompey in a topsy-turvy rollercoaster of a game. If memory serves me right, Gus Poyet sneaked the winner very late on.

A very odd season, with Hoddle sacked fairly early on after a terrible run of results and then David Pleat stepping in to hold the fort as we trod water for much of the season. Despite that, we had some very talented players at this time - Ziege, Simon Davies, Keane, Defoe, Poyet, King, etc - who would often make things entertaining. And there were lots of high-scoring games. Some good - like this one - and a crazy 4-4 draw against Leicester; others less good, like the 4-3 defeat to 10-man City after being 3-0 up!

Seb Bassong versus Liverpool, 2009-10 season - not a huge amount was expected of us this season, Harry's first in charge, but everything felt right from the first whistle. We were playing brilliantly and deservedly took the lead when BAE blasted in a worldie after the initial free-kick hit the wall. Liverpool equalised from the penalty spot after the customary moment of madness from Gomes (the Aurier of that time period), but we deservedly re-took the lead when Bassong - a good signing from Newcastle - nodded home.

Was quite an underrated player, and did a great job alongside Dawson that season - or Woodgate and King, when fit. Big reason why we got 4th for the first time.

Steven B versus Man City, 2019-20 season - brilliant technique, perfect timing right after the City sending off, and the big-game lift we all needed. The celebration was also great - pure joy and adrenaline from all the players, fans, subs and coaching staff.

Might all go wrong for him now, like N'jie and GKN before him, but whatever happens he'll always have that to cling to.

Sure I've missed plenty more, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind. What's your favourite?

Has to be Danny Rose's piledriver for me - such a moment of shock, wonder and disbelief, and gave everyone the belief that we could finally beat the Gooners. COYS.

Wanyama vs Liverpool is another great goal, but was it a fluke because he's not scored one similar to it since?

Again, the ball was cleared and fell perfectly for him to smash it into the top corner.

suppose it was bang average because he's not followed it up like Kane would?

Let me re clarify what I meant by fluke. He scored that goal 10 years ago and since then has never repeated anything close to that goal. If that was Kane, we know he has backed it up.

I once scored a volley from the half way line in 5 a side about 5 years ago and never repeated it since. If was a fluke by me and Rose.

It was a fluke because he hasnt tried it since?

Can only remember one over head kick gaol from Bale. Was his a fluke?

Charlie Adams used to shoot from the half way line virtually every game. One went in once. A fluke?

Let's face it, you try something like a 30 yard volley 9/10 will probably go nowhere near the goal, same with over heads etc Doesnt make them all flukes
