Where would we have finished under Poch?

When Pochettino was sacked, we were sat in 14th place, just 3 points above Villa in 17th and 11 points off 4th.

Throughout 2019, we had won 40 Premier League points.

Compare that to others:

Bournmouth 35 points
West Ham 38 points
Burnley 40
Everton 41
Newcastle 42
Wolves 44
Crystal Palace 45
Man United 47
Arsenal 49
Leicester 50
Chelsea 55
Man City 76
Liverpool 77

Where do you think we would have finished under Pochettino?

Does anyone think he should have been given more time?

Football is a results game. Ask Leeds right now whether they want pretty football to get them promotion or just results, however they play.

Jose is now getting results, so I couldn't care one iota about performances. Keep it up Jose, you are doing a fine job.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is he though?

I’d say his record so far has been bang average, and if the “performances” don’t improve, it’ll stay that way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Jose’s results have been ‘bang average’ would you therefore say that Poch’s results this season were below average?

(I don’t actually expect you to answer this as you would have to concede that Poch wasn’t doing a good enough job this season. It doesn’t matter though, the points picked up by both tell us a story. Poch’s form in the league = 14th / Jose’s = 4th).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
This isn't as good a point as you think it is. Of course Pochettino was doing badly, well below average let alone his own high standards. Acknowledging that doesn't make Mourinho a good replacement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who would you have replaced Poch with?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd have given him more time with proper backing. But I can still acknowledge the case for sacking him even if I didn't agree with it.

There was a list of names going around at the time including Nagelsmann, Ten Haag, Tuchel, Benitez and Allegri. I can honestly say I would have taken any of those, or Ancelotti, ahead of Mourinho.

Again, let's not mix all the arguments together. The first is whether Pochettino was doing well or not. Objectively, he was not. Though obviously the reasons for that are more complex than some would have you believe, and arguably less about Pochettino's management than Levy and the players.

Secondly, should Poch have been backed or sacked. People come down on opposite sides of this one, and that's always going to happen. Obviously I come down on the "back him" side, and it leaves a sour taste seeing someone else spend the money he was deprived for a long time up till last summer, by which time it was too late. Mourinho also happens to be getting the benefit of Pochettino's signings with Lo Celso and Ndombele finally fit and playing well too. But again, it's hard to dispute the fact that performances were in the realms of sack-worthiness.

Thirdly, who would've been a good replacement if he did have to be sacked. As I've said above, Mourinho would've been bottom of my list. Genuinely. I think he's an appalling fit, I said so at the time and I maintain it now. And I think I'll be proven right in the long term when it all goes south as well.

If I'm wrong, then fine. Great, even, if it means Spurs doing well. But people singing Mourinho's praises - leaving Pochettino entirely out of the equation - I don't necessarily think are looking at the bigger picture, including the style of football and, more importantly, Mourinho's track record over his past few jobs.

His last job before us was at United, where he won the league cup and UEFA cup.

Exactly. If that’s deemed a failure by supporters on here then let’s hope we can fail and win trophies like that it was a p** poor United team and Mourinho still won trophies with them.

And this is the crux of it. He won trophies (not even the big ones) after astronomical spending, and on the way he fostered a thoroughly toxic atmosphere, had public spats with his own players and left the club in a mess that will take years to recover.

Which is why I think he's a terrible fit for Spurs, and winning an FA Cup won't change that (if he even does that, of course).

I don't think there's many United fans who remember Mourinho's time at the helm fondly.

I'll admit round about the time Jose was linked with Arsenal I was praying he would go there but when Levy sacked Poch and brought him straight away I was relieved as we signed a born winner who rubs people up the wrong way. Abit like Dele in regards to winding people up lol

Put Jose's name against all those you put Amanda and Jose wins hands down for where are as a club and where we want to go. He is proven in the Prem and Europe.

When you say he should have been backed or sacked I'm confused as he was backed in his last window then sacked lol.

Overall Poch had 5 years with a limited budget and squeezed 100% out of the squads he coached with us. Fairplay to him but a change was needed and credit to Levy for getting a manager in with a winning mentality.

As many have said before I would take a boring winning style everytime over champagne nearly men football which is what we are
accustomed to. Keep the faith as always and our day(s) will come! COYS

So would I mate. I’m sick and tired of playing “great football “ yet never achieving anything. Spurs never ever win or achieve anything and it’s got to stop. If it means we play a defensive brand of football for a bit and it ends up ending our trophy baron spell them I’m all for it.
