Atletico

So the champions league is back. Whats everyone's thoughts on this tie? For me this is the 1 team I didnt want when the draw was made. They are a horrible side to play against and make no mistake this one will go to the wire.

Very similar to napoli in style, who we've sttuggled massively against 2 years running, they will stick to their guns, sit in deep and soak everything up waiting for that 1 moment in either of the 2 legs. Ive no doubts theyll feel they can stifle us.

I honestly cant call this one. Heart says we will sneak it. What im sure of is this will be our toughest test of the season to date. I also believe if we do get through this tie we will go on to the final again.

Definitely be a low scoring tie but i expect us to edge it.

Get ready for every dirty trick in the book from this lot. Think back to Flamengo and then multiply that by 10. Incessant fouling/kicking of our players, diving, timewasting, surrounding the referee waving imaginary cards, you name it. The fact they know they are the inferior side will worsen things. I’m talking 11 Diego Costa’s being led by the man himself.

Could be a very frustrating tie at times but our mentality to remain calm should see us through. Getting that away goal first leg is massively important.

Should absolutely plunder them. We’ve already won there and it’s good memories will get use through.

First leg we will win 3-0

I admire your optimism but atletico haven't conceded 3 in a game all season. They have the best defence in spain. Id be amazed if we won the whole tie by that margin never mind 1 leg.

We are Liverpool. Full strength

They have injuries.

Plus I need some UEFA bods to lose interest so I can get a couple of tickets.

They've been pretty poor all season when judged against their standards of two or three years ago. I keep expecting them to improve, but the improvement just isn't coming. To make matters worse, they've got quite a few injuries too.

They could trouble Liverpool if they got their act together, but it would require everything falling into place for them and, probably, Liverpool getting a bit jittery if they did somehow manage keep it close until the closing stages, but this Liverpool side don't seem to do nerves either.

In short, I think they would simply need too many things to come together for them in order to trouble Liverpool right now.

I think you'll go through fairly comfortably, at least by a couple of goals over the two legs. I wouldn't expect too large a margin score-wise, but wouldn't rule it out either.

people need to realise our game style needs a good ref, not one that allows every flop a free.

you cant press effectively when all a guy needs do is turn his back and fall over.

also I'll predict it now. robertson has got away with murder for too long. atletico will target him big style and hes a walking red card away from home if he gets wound up. his naughtiness is great fun but against a bunch of cheating divers he could be one mistake away from costing us.

so if we get a ref who doesn't blow everything up we will beat them home and away imo.

if we get an official who gives them cheap frees for every flop then we could be in trouble

They'll be our toughest opponents of the season so far.

I'd agree. Better than Napoli so we need an away goal at least tomorrow.

We can't get sucked into thinking that just cos we can waltz through the OBVIOUSLY terrible english prem (don't the wums tell us so) that we can beat an actual good team.

Ref will be crucial imo

Simeone's sides remind me of us before we reached this level that we're currently on....they love playing the underdogs. They feed off it.

Trust me they going to treat this as their biggest game this season. We need to be prepared for that.

I personally think they might be the first side that could possibly 'outrun' us in a long time. At least for the first leg.
