Punching Above Our Weight

Seems to be a bit of doom & gloom around
Now let me once again reiterate what I said earlier this season.
We will get games like this all season.
We should not be anywhere near 4th , this a massive transitional season.
new manager, bans etc etc .
To be challenging for fourth is a bonus, really was not expected.
It really does not matter what happens, if we get 4th great, if we don;t no problem.
We are and I will say again we only a very few players away from being a very very good side. The younger players will have a full season behind them and new quality players being brought in will be the start,
I expect the challenge for honours to possibly start next season, but even if it does not, it wont be long coming.
We always come back , we get wrote off time and again but we come back.
We will do again, its who we are.,we are winners

I find the idea that Chelsea would run their business with such reckless abandonment frankly ludicrous, to be honest.
------------------------------------------------------
The act of hiring Lampard in the first place was reckless (same with Solskjaer). He filled no acceptable criteria which would've made him qualified for the position. Was like sticking an intern in charge, if you don't allow him the time to learn on the job & account for the possibility of short term failure in the interim - then his appointment is rendered ludicrous. A waste of everyone's time.

Just to be clear, say we lose to Spurs on the weekend & the next day I see the news Lampard's been sacked, I won't be the least bit surprised. I just have to hope the club entered into this appointment not expecting anymore than this so soon.

But there’s a huge difference between appointing him in the first place (which you were kind of forced into due to circumstance), and appointing him and having no expectation whatsoever in terms of results, allowing him to finish anywhere between 17th and 5th without repercussions. Chelsea won’t do that, because they aren’t demented and ruled by sentimentality.

Mason

Why were we forced to appoint him...?

Why couldn't we have appointed someone else...?

Well you could have, but I think the transfer ban and Hazard leaving made Chelsea a difficult sell to managers. Especially the most promising ones.

Lampard doesn’t have the same worries a more established manager has when managing Chelsea in these circumstances as he’s just starting out in the game and a club legend, he would always jump at the chance because he’s not achieved anything in management to actually warrant the job. Circumstances dictated the appointment I’d say.

I do not for one second think Chelsea would be managed by Lampard had they not had their transfer ban.

I think he was always earmarked for the job at some stage...granted circumstances may have pushed that agenda forward a bit

Hazard was always leaving though, & Pulisic had been signed potentially in his place, & has shown promise prior to injury...& we knew we had a crop of youngsters that just needed a chance

The driving force behind Lampard's appointment was sentimentality. The idea that we saw his one season's work at Derby as a credible reason to hire him would be terrifying lol.... but same logic would've applied if we hired Arteta. Making the plunge hiring someone so inexperienced you have to account to short term failure, otherwise don't hire them. Simple as that.

We weren't forced into appointing him. The circumstances would've thinned the options but I refuse to believe someone more qualified wouldn't have been possible. I guess the question is did the club see Lampard as a long term solution or a short term gamble? If it's the latter then he is vulnerable.

well...Lamps needs to up his game somewhere...he has his cards & has to play them well

If he suddenly get's dealt a hand where CHO RLC Pulisic & Tammy are available we might see a different game plan

If we are having to manage with utter fackin shat like Bats...it'll be what it is...the 8th place I forecast in August

I think the driving force was more to have Jody Morris working to integrate the youngsters more than anything else.

I’m not disputing that you don’t account for short term failure. But there are levels to it. And if Chelsea’s form persist there comes a stage where you couldn’t have accounted for short term failure on the scale that sees such poor results.

The idea that Chelsea won’t take any of this into consideration is mental.

Trouble is....we have overachieved this term thus far...had we been sat say 6th to 8th, not much would be said, as we'd be where most would have expected us to be given the circumstances

Because were 4th still in the CL & FA Cup...recent results have taken on a new look

It’s because you’ve been in relegation form for most of the season that it’s taken on a new look. The fact that the league has been so bad this season leaves you in 4th, despite this, is not indicative of a team overachieving.

Chelsea overachieved to win six in a row. Judging by the rest of the season that little run was an outlier and the other 20 games are reflective of your level this season, a level which is an underperforming.
