Absolute shocker

Romero concedes

He’d gone something like 580 minutes without allowing a goal against, having kept six clean sheets in a row.

His record in all comps this season is now three goals conceded in eleven full games.

He isn’t facing PL sides every week, granted, but what a safe pair of hands we have as a squad player.

Sergio

Edit: Just checked with WhoScored and across those fixtures he’s faced 24 shots on target (excluding blocked shots), which should give him a save ratio of 0.875, which isn’t half bad.

While Romero loves to play it risky at the back, he is a far better shot stopper than De Gea. De Gea has actually been statistically one of the worst keepers in the PL since 2018/19 season onwards. Its strange in 17/18 season he had his best season with us and then he went to World Cup couldn't really make a save and that form has continued with us ever since and he makes a lot of mistakes.

Also the goal Romero conceded came from a ball that should have been our corner and was an illegal goal as Mignolet kicked ball while it was rolling so technically it shouldn't have counted.

Cracking back up keeper. One area you’re far stronger than us for sure!

He’s a very reliable back up keeper, today being the exception. Fack knows what he was doing there for that goal.

Mason The King Greenwood (U10026)

To be fair it was a goal made from a really poor ref decision and our players were protesting for corner and got caught in our half so Romero must have seen all that and tried to get to the ball as the last line of defence or to put player off. If you see the person who scored that he got extremely lucky with his finish.

No significant difference in the two keepers (coco
or romero) to be honest.

Both need extra protection from the back four. Hence the depth the whole team has to set themselves.

It's an issue that hasn't gone away, just one that has been overshadowed by the increasing poxiness of the forwards/attacking midfielder/winger situation

In an ideal world we'd sell De Gea for good money in the summer and have Hendo and Romero fight for the No.1 shirt next season...

In reality De Gea will be collecting his 350K a week for average performances for the next 4 years...
