Trade agreement EU UK

If there is no progress in the trade agreement negotiations, Boris will walk away in June.

Trade deal with Canada took 8 years, trade deal negotiations with the US abandoned after 4 years

Good luck Boris. Its like he is doing it on purpose.

We are telling you to fack off. Take it or leave it is pretty much the same as
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Except you’re not.

You’re just the same manager in belligerently pontificating about how you can just simply wave us goodbye and carry on with a better life yet hang around telling us how much we need you.

I’ve met women like you. You’re not a woman are you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because we have committed to negotiating a deal with the UK, just not on terms that allow the UK to dump inferior products on the market.

Take it or leave it. In other words, our terms or fack off.

More than happy to fwck off and still no idea why you're still crawling around like a bad smell asking us not to.

I think we've stated that very clearly and I'm genuinely unsure as to why you believe differently.

The UK is driving the timetable now in case you haven't noticed and the UK government has absolute carte blanche to walk as it has said it will do.

You want a trade deal probably more than we do because now you see the immediate threat we can pose. That was never the case up until December election. Changed days.

So we will leave your shoddy "deal" thanks but we know you'll compromise. You have to.

Bit of a pathetic climb down from previous for you. How embarrassing

EU is acting within its commitments of engaging in negotiating a deal.

If those lines that Johnsons government put forward are the only terms they want to conduct trade on, theyll get told to do one - again

"Easiest trade deal in human history" yeah ok.

Yet to see the UK government stating they :
- dont need a trade deal
- dont want a trade deal
- are walking away

Me too

I'm pretty sure I didn't claim that although we have said we will walk away in certain scenarios.

And I believe we have said we will accept that, and that's if we don't say "do one" first if they continue to try and move the deadlines

There's a world of difference between saying you'll stand by your commitments and then trying to hold up the diary to extend things as long as possible. It's what the EU have always done; dictated the timetable.

This time it appears that option isn't one which will get them very far and we will walk.

It wont get the Johnson government very far at all, no.

So if that's all they are willing to do, why havent the UK governmebt announced that they will cease talks?

I didn't say that either.

The UK want a trade deal. As do the EU. They are (at least on the face of it) light years apart.

All that's been clearly stated is that if there is not sufficient progress by June and/or a deal in place by the end of the year then we will walk away with no deal.

We seem to be quite prepared to accept that and I believe most of the country is as well. The EU i think still haven't grasped that although it's very slowly starting to dawn on them.

That's the clear advantage of having such a strong, clear minded majority who will follow up what it says and can't be sidetracked by anyone else.

My thoughts fwiw are that both sides will compromise to an extent on most of the basics and that negotiations and fine tuning will maybe carry on for years; but there is no way we will accept alignment or EU jurisdiction. Nothing could be made more clearly.

The UK is not (and in all honesty never would be) prepared to walk away from negotiations.

This has been a failed tactic since the outset (no deal better than a bad deal etc).

Whilst the EU can make some concessions WTO MFN (most favoured nation) obligations dictate that they would have to make comparable concessions to other third countries around the world, thus undermining the integrity of their internal market.

Given the ridiculous timetable imposed on itself the UK is at best going to get a FTA like developing countries have (see EU general system of preference, Anything but Arms etc) have. Ie. tariff free access.

Which in light of the economic needs of the UK (services based) will be catastrophic.

Thankfully the government will begin completing impact assessments in the summer...
