Pep has been out done by Klopp this season in the league, no doubt. However would Liverpool be as good without Pep’s City? After all PL champions rarely hit 90+ points before his arrival. Then all of a sudden 100 points are achieved, which seemed impossible. The 98 the season after. Sure Liverpool got 97, but that’s partly because the standard City set the season before and during. Otherwise we’re talking about Liverpool this season defending their league title.
Now we are looking at potentially the greatest team Liverpool have ever assembled in the history of their club. There’s little doubt even without Pep, Klopp would’ve won Liverpool the league and CL, but I don’t think they’d have been this good. It’s almost like the Messi-Ronaldo debate where both have needed each other to keep pushing on.
Of course the team Pep had with Barca is the highest standard set. But he was the first man to 100 points in Spain and England. He has changed football in every country he’s managed in. As much as I prefer Klopp, there’s no denying Pep is the no 1 in the world and arguably the greatest to have done it.

We're miles in front though so I think it's just credit to the players really for maintaining that hunger.

Can’t take anything away from Liverpool, but I’m just not sure they’d have known what they’re capable of without City having achieved what they have. Also I think only Klopp is able to match that sort of standard.

I made a similar point a while back - teams raise the bar and force others to improve. Wenger’s Arsenal “helped” us to win the treble in a similar way.
I still think City are a more formidable side than Liverpool on their day. But they’ve stuttered this year; add that to Liverpool’s relentlessness and the failings of United, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal and it’s really been the perfect storm.

Bit like when Utd came second under Jose I thought Liverpools best was better but Utd had consistency.

Pep is a bit like Arrigo Sachi in the sense that his tactical concepts are so revolutionary that the players can't really perform the role he wants. I this Klopp is class too, but Pep has changed the way football is played forever.

The Op is spot on about how the Pep Klopp thing mirrors the Messi and Ronaldo thing, and thats how sport and life should be. The best push each other to achieve even more. Thats how Apple and Microsoft became even better.
Even when some were saying Mane was unlucky to lose out to Messi, I was embarassed at how people were so ready to lower the standard for Mane to win Balon dor! Like WTF. The standard is over 50 goals with at least 12-15 in Europe.
Thats the stanadard Messi and Ronaldo have set for close to 10 years. Either reach it or go home.

I have honestly been thinking about this Ronaldo and Messi Era. I doubt a lot of people are taking stock of what the end of both players careers will mean. For 10-12 years not one single player came close to even reaching their average standards. Not even one.
Its a pity how both probably wont reach a 1000 goals to end the Pele myth as I believe both have surpassed Pele and maradona.

Any sensible fan will tell you the same OP. Klopp is a legend in his own right but Pep just had more impact or influence on the game.
The good thing about Klopp is that he has really narrowed in on the two main things that you could point a finger at with Pep's teams...aggression and power. Pep can learn from him too
