Gerrard

Ready to walk? Says he can't think about the next game. Needs some time to have a think to himself. Him and his staff have given the players everything for 2 years.

Ojo, Barker, Hastie and Stewart have basically cost you next to nothing in transfer fees but neither are good enough for Rangers.

1 will be away in the summer but it may be loan deals for the other 3.

What's the agreed fee for Hagi? €5 million or something? Given you spent more on Kent, seems a no brainer.

Although, i guess the arguments about the rough and tumble of the SP would apply to him too, he's been anonymous the last 2 SP games i've watched.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Killie took it in turns to nail Hagi in the first 15 minutes last time out.

Dicker did it twice through the back before being booked. Power then took up the mantle in halfing him.

Unfortunately for us that's the way it is in Scottish football.

To combat it you can either be far superior technically and hope the referee gives you adequate protection (which simply doesn't happen) or you can go down to their level and fight fire with fire.

I would plump for the latter tbh. We need to stand up for ourselves more and take the fight to them because you simply cant rely on refs in Scotland for protection.

So if its going to be about a battle then lets get a couple of guys in willing to mix it and stand up for ourselves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Happened to us with Frimpong and Edouard after the winter break.

You need some players to stand up to it and for your technical players to still stand and be counted, ours do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not falling for their nonsense mate.
Whenever things go against them, this is the standard line. We need a Terry Hurlock...all that garbage.

They're trying to create the impression that they are a tippy tappy nice football team who are getting bullied in Scotland. Yet we hear regularly that Alfredo is able to bully whole defences on his own.

They just need better players than they have..especially in midfield. Jack and Kamara, for example, didn't really stand out much for Aberdeen and Dundee. Just standard SPFL journeymen.

It's a lack of quality that's the issue. Nothing else.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yet we have the quality to get to the last 16 of the Europa league.

And in fact be the first team ever to make it there from our entry point.

And you can’t claim we have done well in Europe because it’s pressure free. The pressure on the players to make it to the groups was enormous.

I have seen enough of Rangers this season to know the games they don’t handle are the domestic games when the opposition just make it a horrible battle.

We don’t have one real physical player in the team.

And I am not talking about a clogger. I agree it’s partly mentality. But it is also about pure physical aggression. We desperately lack it at times.

Rangers are more than a match physically for any team in Scotland. Absolute nonsense to suggest that you get kicked off the park whilst trying to play football in Scotland.
Morelos is a bully capable of bullying entire back fours on his own. Katic is a machine apparentky.
Ryan jack is just as capable of leaving a sneaky boot in as Broonie is. Barasic and goldson are quite capable of looking after themselves

I have praised rangers on here for their incredible run of results in Europe..including winning in Villareal last year...but I have no idea how they have done it. It hasn't been by playing silly soccer as far as I can see.

All I'm saying is that you be better adding quality than brawn athough I can see that a Souness type who can do both would be ideal. The problem is that they are hard to get now at any price never mind the level Rangers are at.

Rangers have had enough quality to beat Porto, Feyenoord, Braga etc.

To suggest we don’t have the quality to beat Hearts, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone doesn’t make any sense imo.

Teams that go through us from the off. They intimidate us. They play direct football, try and force errors and battle for scraps.

I am struggling to think of a well constructed goal out of the ones we have conceded recently.

We don’t like it up us and go to pieces too easily.

We need leaders and battlers.

I do take the point about the lack of leaders.

You don't have a lot of guys in that squad who are used to winning things and getting titles over the line.

I was concerned to hear all that chat abour being better as underdogs. That's not right for a club like Rangers

posted on 2/3/20

It’s a mentality issue.

Being a leader is all in the mind-that’s not a physical thing.

Performing better because you feel you’re an underdog is a mental stance-it’s nothing to do with physical strength.

Hearts aside, rangers have beaten these teams already this season.

There’s also the possibility that they overperformed in the first half of the season, and are slightly underperforming this half.

They didn’t just suddenly become physically weaker in January.

Yet you are happy to conclude they have become mentally weaker since the turn of the year?

Not sure I really get the justification for that.

Rangers lost the cup final in the most heart breaking way yet showed the mental strength to secure progression in the Europa league and finish the year tucked in behind celtic with a game in hand to go top of the league.

Don't underestimate the dent that cup final loss was to Rangers and how well they picked themselves up and bounced back.

Our dip in form has been pretty mystifying to be honest.

But what I can say is Rangers absolutely lack physicality in the way the play in my opinion.

Teams like Hearts, Livi, Killie etc regularly come out in the first 10-20 minutes of games and rattle Rangers players.

I have never seen us do that to any opposition team.

And I cannot think of a player who genuinely has that in them. Arfield is probably our most aggressive player and he is more of an attacking player.

We have a softness to the core of the team. Opposition teams have worked that out and are exploiting it.

The games we have toiled in all follow similar patterns. Scrappy games with constant breaks in the play due to fouls, injuries etc and a scrappy winner/equaliser from the opposition usually related to some sort of panicky defensive error by Rangers.

This Gers team don't like it up them and don't have anyone capable of fighting back. Too soft physically and mentally.
