Thus spake Edwyn Collins in 1982. Uncannily prophetic or unnecessary scaremongering from the Scotch indie tunesmith?
With all matches suspended until April 4th and the inevitability of more widespread infection by then, there is no chance at all of a re-start of the season in the foreseeable future. If current predictions are correct then there should be a peak of the outbreak in June, which means that 3 months AFTER that we will be about where we are now in terms of new cases. That will be September. To complete the remaining fixtures in the summer months, even with postponing of the Euros for a year, seems wildly optimistic.
What are the options? The season could end now and the league tables become the final league tables. It happens that all teams in the Championship have at least played the same number of games. But would it be right to relegate, say, Charlton, who might back themselves to stay up at this point? Would it be possible or right to have play-offs or would you give promotion to the third-place team at the moment (Fulham)?
What the hell would you do in the Premiership where teams haven't played the same number of games? Villa are 2 points away from safety with a game in hand. They stand to lose tens of millions if they go down. What happens about Champions League places with similarly vast amounts of money at stake? Would clubs sue?
Is it better to completely write off the season as one that never happened? Liverpool don't win the Premiership. Leeds and West Brom stay in the Championship. Forest avoid play-off humiliation. These are the main positives. There are probably negatives too though.
What do people think about the possible alternatives facing the EFL and Premiership? Which is the least bad option?

If the games cannot be played in the PL and Championship and in the other leagues, the season should become null and void and we start gain in August (all being well, then ). Its tough on Leeds and WBA but this pandemic will be much tougher than that on many individuals, corporations, businesses , students and organisations nationwide (Nay World wide)

I bet the Premier league regret their winter break. Liverpool could have been champions by now. Whatever the EFL and premier league decide there are bound to be disappointed clubs and fans.

I totally 100% agree with your penultimate paragraph.
Got to have something to cheer us up.

I will be disappointed that Bournemouth wont be relegated. I wanted to see what the EFL were going to do about them driving a truck through FFP to be promoted. Clubs with a stadium holding 9000 are more suited to Division 1.

The EFL are waiting for Villa too in a big way.

I think we should scrap all league positions and just start again with all four leagues being alphabetically assigned.
A-F- Premier
G-M Championship
N-S Third Division
T-Z Fourth Division.
Something like that.
It'll all work itself out eventually.
