Freeze and declare

So, we live in deadly times. With Coronavirus not expected to peak until May, the chances or a re-start in the PL fades away by the day. I think that the cancellation of Euro 2020 is inevitable. So what can the authorities and the FA do?

We live in a time where the country is more polarised, where agreement to disagree seems a thing of the past, where Boris and his mob, like most other leaders is judged to be doing everything wrong by others who are challenged in turn.

For football, again rightly something that diminishes by the day when compared to lives being lost, my solution is simple:

1. Freeze and declare. Throughout the leagues, from the PL downwards, each league is frozen for all time, winners and losers declared.

2. Any bonus paid to each winner, irrespective of their position reduced if not withheld entirely.

3. Monies thus reserved paid to current losers, especially those relegated clubs who at this precise moment in time are not so relegated and could have got out of their relegation zone with the 9-10 matches left.

4. (Pie in the sky, I know, but if it isn’t done I can easily see the Football League crash and burn). A trust fund, funded in essence by the PL clubs on an increasing scale by the bigger, more financially successful clubs to help clubs in the lower leagues to survive.

No.4 is a long shot, I know, but if it or something like it isn’t done, what ever happens next season - if there is one - it will be totally unrecognisable from the current status if something as drastic as this isn’t introduced.

This situation hasn’t arisen because one or two or mor clubs have over-extended themselves financially or any other forms of the usual stupidity. We’ve got a natural disaster, a perfect storm racing down on us instead, and the football world needs to get its act together.

It’s laughable that people think that the league can just start again in august/September - there would be no integrity to the competition at that point. Players out of contract won’t play and you can’t force them to, this destroying the integrity.

The simple matter is that for the PL season to be null and voided they need 14 clubs to agree to it - come the summer if football cannot be played they are not gonna have much trouble doing that. Other than Liverpool, and Possibly Sheff Utd/Wolves/Man United and Leicester who else is going to complain?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chairman will complain when they dont get the TV money which will trickle down to the money clubs gets for "completing" the season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why wouldn’t they get the money?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only pro rata money will be given which will be alot less because the season needs to be completed. Sky/BT and the foreign channels ain't stupid. Prize money will be wiped out too.

Money talks so season will need to be completed

But they will get less money next year if there are only 19 games for each side due to this season needing completing. Money talks as you say, I think though it may be more financially economical to void this season and do a new full season in August

Why will there be less games the following season? Football calendar needs to be changed anyway to take Qatar 22 into consideration.

Less games is the current suggestion, chairman aren’t going to be happy with that.

The plan for the Qatar World Cup is to have a 6 week mid season break, it’s already been worked out.

The real issue will be what the other big leagues decide. If La Liga and Serie A null and void their seasons then you can bet your life that the Premier league will as well. You can’t get to October with the PL playing this season and La Liga playing a new one - it would wreak havoc on European competition.

The big worry is that this could lead to the European super league break away.

I also thing there will be a legal issue in regard to fans being sold season tickets, on the basis they were watching competitive matches, when ultimately, they will have been paying a premium price, for basically attending a collection of friendlies.

So if the season is voided, maybe every fan in the country who has bought a ticket for a game in the Premier league, should be refunded.
See how that floats the likes of Karen Bradys boat.

That won’t be an issue as when the games were played they were competitive at that point. Good luck trying to get compensation on that basis though, if your successful then let me know as I’m also a season ticket holder.

That’s stupid talk, she’s not scuum any more I suspect than you are. How would you like it if someone called other half or your mum that?

Unpopular, thoroughly unpopular with WHU fans, definitely. The move from Upton Park, supposed to herald European football just hasn’t happened. The vitriol shown by the fans against the management is there for all to see.

Justifiable criticism? I don’t know, but for Brady to come out and try to persuade others to declare the season null and void, thereby escaping almost inevitable relegation needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.

If she demanded null and void, together with a demand, in order to show how fair and even handed she is, that her club West Ham United be automatically relegated then she’d have a bit more credence.

I’m not holding my breath on this one.
