in strict rationing. With the shelves getting completely stripped within an hour or so of restocking, there seems less and less stuff to go around. Wife has just been shopping, and she said nothing to buy.
For the elderly that cannot go out, cannot get a slot on online shopping, how are they supposed to get supplies into their home?
There is seems a complete lack of Government planning. If movement is to be curtailed, transport stopped, there has to be clear plan forward. Is it to bring in the army to get things moved around? Volunteers in the local communities? What is it to be. Not hearing anything at the moment. The Government really do need now to start giving clear instructions.
Schools closed, what`s the plan now then? Transport shut down, how do key workers get around? Empty shelves, how do they get them restocked more than once a day?
Lots of questions, but very few answers. If this was just a crisis for a week or so, maybe people would get by, but this looks long term, so a real plan going forward is needed. During the war, strict rationing was brought in, this is what is probably needed now.
We all need to knuckle down now, not be so wasteful, think of others, and we will get through this. It won`t be easy, but we will survive, but it takes teamwork.
Stay safe anybody. And do what your are told to do. If it means staying indoors, then stay indoors.

We agree on a lot of things Sandy, but one thing I can never agree on is you’re political views mate. Extremely harsh. You honestly think Jeremy the bumbling fool Corbyn would be doing any different ? Then there’s the fact that as of now we need this stuff the chances are that what we bought some time ago would likely be obsolete (no spare parts) or outdated.
And of course we’d have needed to have readily available trained staff to utilise this equipment.

With all the extra money they're making, the supermarkets should be providing extra security. Not just to stop people bulk buying, but for the safety of their staff.
Another thing I've not seen anyone here mention (apologies though if someone already has) but what's happening to protect the homeless during all this?

Johnson has acted two or three weeks late, but better late than never I suppose, but I fear that the damage has already been done.
I am happy that Britain has now basically become what I always wanted a Socialist State, at least for the time being, where everybody is basically getting supported by the State.
Problem is when this is all over, it will all have to be paid for, and guess by who, it will be the poorest as usual. The next 10/20 years will be like Austerity on Steriods. Public Services will be completely trashed so that the current Government can balance the books.

Yes , but they had no choice mate. They had to introduce this 80% payment thing which I think is fantastic. Luckily I’m personally not affected, as I count as a “key worker” in my sector. I won’t be told to stay at home and the chances of my sector going down under are pretty much non existent, so I am fortunate in that sense, but others are not and need the help. The government plan to help pay people in need is superb mate.

The main thing though Don, is the very people that the Tories have been trashing for 10 years, the nurses, hospital workers, cleaners, carers, overseas workers etc are the very people that we are now all relying on for our very existance now.
Shocking the way that foreign health workers have been treated by this Government, making them feel not wanted, and shutting the door to any new workers.
It is a damning indictment of their policies that we are short of nurses, carers etc now.

Shocking that this government had sent 10,000 spare beds and 5,00 spare Drs in storage for a pandemic. Streamline of the NHS started around the same time Blair started tuition fees.
Would any other political party done better in this once in a generation emergency?

Can you even imagine the outpouring of outrage has we as a country (or anyone else) kept empty wards and billions of pounds of hi tech equipment that wasn’t being used “just in case of unforeseen pandemics”?
You don’t just stick them all in a big warehouse and wheel them out when needed ffs. They need staffing and maintenance and will need ongoing testing to ensure they still work after years of non use.
Then there’s the fact that as of now we need this stuff the chances are that what we bought some time ago would likely be obsolete (no spare parts) or outdated.
And of course we’d have needed to have readily available trained staff to utilise this equipment.
What a ridiculous notion. Smacks of an episode of Yes Minister.

Got the audio books from Audible, all the Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister.
I remember they tried to redo it which was crap. The dialogue and timing and the delivery of the dialogue was brilliant in the original.
"The Key" was a brilliant one.
