When will there he spectator sports again

An article in the Guardian this morning is positing it won't be this year.
I can't imagine the ramifications, but there will be bankruptcies and job losses in nearly all professional sports.

To finish the league after, say, 10 months seems ludicrous to me.
But rivalry aside, we all know Liverpool have been the best team by far,, and were going to win the title, this needs to be recognised

Any suggestions how we as supporters should help with the fallout especially for poorer teams, we still want four proper leagues imo.

It's turning into a catastrophe,, I hope wre all survive and the teams we support.

In other words what's the best way forward?

May 2020.
Within the next two weeks we'll probably see approval of effective treatment methods (as we're currently in testing phase). Treatment will cut down hospital time from 15 days + to around 6 days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no chance. While some treatments are already approved for different uses and their side effects are known they will either need human use exemptions for small scale tests or full approval for mass market.

If some products can reduce the effects they would be pouring into italy right now. The place is an absolute disaster.

13.5% mortality rate.

Anyone who say we need to complete this season due to the integrity of the competition. But what about the integrity of next season. How can you even play a shorter season next season. Who ever won the league say only playing half a season would not be proper champions in my eyes. What about teams who take 5 6 7 games to get going. Their season who be over before it even began. Only way it would work would to completely scrap the euros. So if next season did start late would not really matter. And by the way all the major league who have to agree Spain Italy Germany ect.. what to do, Cant have every league months or even seasons behind each other.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
next season hasn't happened.

As the man said. it was ok for the league in 1989 to force LFC to play 8 games in 23 days to protect the so called integrity.

It should be ok now for clubs all in the same boat to finish the season togethr.

You cannot use unapproved medicine on mass scale otherwise you risk causing mass side effects or even killing and lots of litigation.

You can only try it on a selected sample and presenting findings and to authorities for approval (or rejection).
Currently in the sampling/testing phase. I'm quietly optimistic we'll have something by May.

Among the most positive sampling/testing is the recent chloroquine / azithromycin combination (in a French study), where 100% tested negative after 6 days compared to Chloroquine 11 days+ and placebo 15 days +. Requires bigger testing for better accuracy. Quite likely we're going to see continued reduction in deaths in Italy as these tests and trials are expanded to general severe cases (rather than just selected few).

Let's stay positive guys.

I totally agree with you about safety but exactly what i said in response to the original post......

While a drug may have been proven safe for one thing doesn't mean it is safe for use when someone is seriously ill. it does give a big head start.

First step is safety. Second step is efficacy....

If a new indication for use is being thought baout for an anti malaria drug which would be administered as a preventative measure then you will know its not toxic for exampel however you cannot know it won't have side effects on a sick person in respiratory distress.

However that being said the "don" will no doubt try to order the FDA to just go use the thing is a gross abuse of power.

The chloriquine is a big hope fo rme as I know a guy from lagos who says the shelves have been cleared there and it is effective. (quack version)

It's more likely will will see reduction in deaths in italy due to lock down rather than drugs.

I'd hope we will see that particular drug ramped up for hospitals globally but not in may. It'll be in the summer hopefully. May is 5 weeks away. theres not the data to justify a review now.

I agree with you moreinjuredthanowen. However I do think we'll have a bit more certainty/confidence on possible effective treatments by May. That's all we need at the moment to have things moving again. Right now there's not much hope.. Especially for the vulnerable.

I certainly hope we do have a path by then.

We need a bit more than a path to get things working normally.

If we could all be prescribed something and not go to hospital it wouldnt be an emergency.

However that said people have been working on this for 6 months already.

Good post, manusince, and there’s no easy answer any less than there is of when this nightmare will end, and it will end.

But the very idea of when any of us can go to a game, or watch any sport live pales into insignificance what with the illnesses and deaths.

At least, the authorities are at least delaying. Better than the head of the IOC still clutching on to the crazy idea that the Olympics will kick off in July in Japan. that’s as sad as it it is madness

its money. pure and simple.

every sport from f1 to football is on the hook.

the problem for the IOC is they have a deal with the us network up to the end of 2020 and if they fail to deliver a games they stand to lose billions.

it's all about the money folks.

same reason the prem has to deliver games in may or june.

same reason why f1 is only cancelling one race at a time

same reason cricket is about to implode in england.
