...Who made the Premier league explode as a worldwide product and eclipse Serie A as the best league in the world who would you choose?
I know its an unfair question as the premier league was mostly born out of Big television deals shared by all PL teams who played fast exciting paced football based on strong British traditions.
But lets not kid ourselves, certain individuals have made the product stronger than ever. In 1996 Serie A still had better players than the English Premier League but for me, in 1996 thats when Arsene Wenger joined Arsenal Football Club and for me he changed it.
Look Fergie is the best manager ever, Cantona one of the biggest personalties but I think Wenger elevated the competition the same way Klopp and Pep have.
I was listening to Carragher explain why Liverpool failed to compete with Arsenal and United whilst probably spending similar amounts or more than Arsenal. He made interesting examples that Liverpool signed Hesky for 11 million, Wenger signed Henry for 11 million. Liverpool would sign Barmby for 8 million, Wenger goes and signs Pires for 7 million.
For me Wenger was the game changer until Chelsea and City won their respective lotteries. Obviously we come from different generations and some will argue that the class of 92, or Shearer etc but I cant see past Wenger.

He’s one of the best managers in the history of the PL and raised standards when he arrived. You talk about him not winning anymore.. Wenger was even worse in his last 10 years in the job. Absolute joke what happened to a once good manger.

Winners also elevate the standard, the same way the puristic and beautiful soccer of Wenger teams also changed the way English soccer was viewed.
I believe Guardiola's winning mentality was improved by mourinho in many ways.

What standards? He spunked hundreds of millions on fantastic players and instructed them to play like Stoke. He is responsible for much of what the premier league is, but almost all of it is negative.

I mean I'm not a fan of what Chelsea and City did to the league, being key parts in creating a system where we now have state backed football clubs (City, PSG, Real Madrid), but in general I like football. Its hard to imagine liking both football and Mourinho.
