will the govt have to bail out the PL

and the football league?

Canal+ already made their feelings clear to the French league and they're one of the rights holders for PL overseas rights.

if the league doesn't finish the PL owes sky and BT 750m of the 1.7bn paid per year for loss of coverage

foreign rights were sold for a smidgen less than the 5bn so one would assume the foreign rights owners are owed a similar figure.

its pretty clear why the PL needs the season to finish but if it doesn't where's it finding this 1.5bn from?

if it comes down to it and resuming the season is a pipe dream will they ask the government for a handout to pay these folks back and then declare season null and void?

I have to believe if the PL could get itself out from these media contract uncertainties they would just call it a day for this season.

The public would rage against such a move. Footballers wages and club earnings are too much of a hot topic.

Quick Google search... these are the most recent figures I could find (possibly there are more recent out there though):

'..the Premier League, UK’s top football league and its clubs contributed £3.36 billion to the nation’s GDP.' (2015)

'The UK music industry contributed £5.2 billion to the UK economy in 2018.'

So factoring in the rest of the leagues, and allowing for more growth in football than music over the last few years (whether true or not) both industries appear to generate similar amounts for the UK economy. Why then would / should one be bailed out, when the other is being left to fend for itself?

Amazon have already shown serious interest - they'll come to a mutual deal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not amazon's biggest fan, but their stream was amazing! Sky Go is the worst streaming i've seen... I hope they go belly up tbh

these mega rich organisations shouldn't be bailed out by the government (who will only pass on the debt to us, joe public)

they should be allowed to fold, if they cant sustain themselves during these times

i dont want a society where gains are privatised, and losses are socialised

that's not capitalism , it's feudalism

Unfortunately that's the society we've got though, and we've had it for decades.

In general If a club like spurs publish result that show year on year profits

https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/pochettino-effect-tottenham-finally-one-18023808

and let me be frank, liverpool have posted 100mil + and stuff in past 2 years

then they can afford a single season hit and just tighten the belts and not spend big fees.

HOWEVER if city are let away with throwing their country owners money at the thing again and spend 2-300 mil then its tantamount to extreme doping.

Its the EFL that should be worried with 50% of clubs likely to go bust.

I think personally some clubs have got by like swansea for years getting older players in cheap but paying them big money. they were something like 80% of turnover on wages when they got relegated and have sunk since. Player contracts are the issue.

If players unions and agents are saying take no cut and force the FA's hand then I'm all for them being taxed at 100% by the government to redistribute the money to clubs or whatever.

Its nasty stuff out there and selfish stuff.

Could well find ourselves with a new look league next season...

Can't imagine too many of the lge 2 sides are going to survive, & we might even get a North/South split League 1

You need to check your facts? What exactly have Liverpool posted 100mil +?

Many Prem clubs will not make it to next season if TV money does not come in saan.
