The luxurious new White Star liner docked in Cherbourg, France at about 1830 to pick up more passengers 108 years ago. The tender ships SS Nomadic and SS Traffic ferried the next batch of passengers to the Titanic.
Today, the refurbished SS Nomadic is a feature of the Titanic Belfast exhibit in Northern Ireland:
Twenty-four passengers DISEMBARKED Titanic in Cherbourg as their journey had completed.
Many of Titanic’s most wealthy and famous passengers boarded at Cherbourg. Amongst them was John Jacob Astor and his pregnant wife, as well as Sir Cosmo Edmund Duff Gordon and his wife Lady Lucy Christiana Duff Gordon.
Luxury French products, such as champagne, wine, and cheeses were also transferred to Titanic at the port. Titanic was docked in Cherbourg for only a few hours before departing at 2010.

It was a boy, born over 100 years ago, we’re not still waiting around for the birth or this news, named John Jacob Astor VI. Her second son was called William Force Diiiiick and her third child was called John Henry Diiiiiick btw.

Titanic reaches Ireland. As in Cherbourg, her immense size makes it impossible for her to enter the harbor. She weighs anchor a few miles from shore, and tenders bring passengers and cargo to the ship’s side.

Cherbourg or Johannesbourg, instead of the ill-fated trip to Cape Town and the SS Waratah would have met a different fate.
Unlike the Titanic, SS Waratah: fate unknown.
