To this day people are saying Liverpool are enjoying the benefit of a a worldwide football slump. Go back 30-40 years and still the reason for Liverpool's success is inferior opposition.

You couldn't make it up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think you realise,it was a straight draw straight from the off.The 2 best teams could meet in the first round and that would open it up for every one else.

Only 1 team from each country, have a few players out and have a bad game and you were gone.

It was very much of a case of getting the luck of the draw to progress at times. Not like now where you could lose 3 out of 6 games and still get through.

As I said earlier,it was far harder to qualify for it,but once you did it was far easier to win.

Teams that finished 2nd and third in Spain/England/Italy were far stronger than the winners of the Swiss or Swedish leagues back then also.

I know how it worked Thanks.

All this cuts both ways and the last paragraph is not a fact. Sometimes they were sometimes they weren't. Look at the winners of the junior European comps and its the same thing.

It’s basic common sense that the world would be more exposed to players in an era where television and the internet increases the exposure to a larger population.

David Beckham was the most famous footballer on the facking planet when he played with Scholes and Keane.

Playing in a few European Cup finals in the 80’s isn’t an increased exposure to 20 years in the digital age in the most popular team in the most popular league in the world.

Gotta be on the wum.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He isn’t on the WUM. He is an utter moron. I have been saying this for the last decade.

TOOR may well be an offspring from Trump.

Does the Souness>Pogba due to trophies argument apply to Scholes V Gerrard?

I’ve always known Toor’s a moron, VC. But there are levels to which it borders wummery. This is such a case. I refuse to believe that even Toor is this thick.

That is where the evidence leads me.

Scholes was more at Danny Murphy level. Its blasphemous to mention him in the same sentence as Gerrard.

Mancs are so deluded. Do any Mancs still think Scholes was better than Gerrard? Seriously?

They wouldn’t need to know the history of players. You make it sound as though people are lining up at local library to divulge on past player glories.

I know the names of the great players from the eras before me because I watch the game. I see footage, I hear references, I’ve read things.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m the kind of fan that loves watching football - regardless of whether my own team is playing.

I watch football related shows, listen to football related phone ins and radio shows, read football books and took about it an awful lot with friends.

I’ve seen Liverpool win the lot. I’m pretty fortunate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mocks someone about reading library books.

Then proceeds to talk repeatedly about reading books about football.

The only thing sadder than someone obessessing over football to the point of listening to talk back radio and reading football books is actually paying for the books instead of borrowing them from a library.

What a monumental spacker.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Except I didn’t mock people for reading library books. Are you really that thick that you can misconstrue such a simple sentence?

I can imagine you’ve been incensed reading these pages and desperate to jump in. But in doing so, you’ve looked like the prat of the year.

Also, nobody mentioned obsessing over football. I don’t believe watching football, listening to football phones ins and reading the odd football book makes someone obsessed. It simply makes them a fan.

And then you have the audacity to call someone else a spacker. This is Brilliant.
