For the next 5 years.
The top Mexican league, Liga MX has scrapped promotion and revelation to/from the Ascenso second division. Many Ascenso clubs were already unable to meet league guidelines regarding finances, were they to be promoted. This was seemingly compounded by Covid related league shut downs.
So it’s no more promotion or relegation for the next 5 seasons. The second division may be turned into a youth development league. Liga MX will pay each of the As Enzo teams about $850,000 a year compensation to endure they continue to operate.
A North American Superleague is also a rumored topic of discussion. That would comprise of about 50 teams and the logistics would make your head ache. But it would likely promise more money for all

With everuthing up in the air at moment, it is the perfect time for a power grab by the men with the money who want even more money.

Exactly. Everyone will be looking how to protect themselves. The PL itself came about when English clubs were banned from Europe and they wanted to make sure they were protected.

I’d imagine so, but hope not. The game has in part, been built on local rivalries. Granted it’s nice seeing those big European nights under the lights against teams I rarely see, but the domestic leagues are where the roots of the game are.
But the talent and money does seem to be getting ever more diluted, so yeah, it’s hard to see beyond a superleague. And maybe that’s what tomorrow’s football fans will want to see. All the big name, high profile players regularly on the same pitch at the same time

You are correct. However, it can be looked at from the angle of change. There is a saying about how humans are afraid of change, it escapes my mind at the mo.
We've had it for over a century, new things must happen, new rivalries and I'd be curious to see his these rivalries develop. The legends and rivalries we have now were all novel at one time. The new ones will be all inclusive and no one to tell you "go and support Belmont FC". A whole new world basically.
I'm sure I'm in the minority and probably a traitor to some but tbh I'd back a super league now, leave alone the future. I'd also perhaps back a serious Club world cup with more teams and seriously big money in it and all teams going for it hard.

I’m more of a believer in a dystopian future, and I don’t want to see the Houston Big Macs playing Beijing Bat Meat City in the final of the world club cup. It’s all a bit too Rollerball for me.
But America wants the passion and skill from the Mexican game. The Mexicans want the broadcasting and corporate dollars of the US. I could definitely see a North American Superleague as it benefits both sides. The rest of the footballing world might just let them be the guinea pigs and see how it goes

Super leagues will happen. Its just a matter of time. Even a world league one day.

My prediction for Europe is domestic top leagues of 16 teams, (PL2 for England as well) a bigger Champions League (10 team groups - 6 teams from the big 4 leagues or teams guaranteed places) and the World Club Cup pushed harder.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the UEFA CL has more or less copied Euroleague basketball for at least a decade
euroleague basketball is now a full 18 team regular season home and away league....before the KO rounds....and it runs along side domestic leagues
UEFA CL will do exactly the same thing soon enough

Everyone is against it, but it'll be pretty good. Just look at NBA, only 30 teams and a very small pool of players amongst them. However the quality on show is really amazing. However that is falling with the amount of games they have to play. Once NBA reduces its total regular season games, quality will be better than ever. If this super league was to happen, it'll be along the same lines.

Tbh the US college system means few slip through the net, whilst drafts ensure some attempt at balance. It's hard to compare European set ups really.
Ipart of me thibks it will become more global, with one day a system where maybe the champions have a hiatus from the league for a season, whilst they compete in a super champions league format.
Part of me sees too many cons and I think the game is delicate and this seems just a pipe dream.
It could work in small nations and make sense but countries with a wealth of leagues I just don't see how it could work and not be detrimental to the game.

Well said.
When I think about it, I'm more interested in a NASL than the Mexican or US leagues on their own. I follow both to a certain extent, obviously they aren't the priority, but a NASL would certainly gain more followership from me and the world by extension I guess.

Globalisation is inevitable IMO. Its just a matter of when, not if. Its like we want the benefits of globalisation without accepting the shortcomings. Being so interconnected and able to impact the life of a guy on the other side of the world by your actions.
