Is promotion a disadvantage for us??

With the finances and PL funding to be cut drastically, would we be at a disadvantage going up this year? Which 3 scenarios would you prefer and why?

A) PL don’t relegate teams but promote Leeds and West Brom - I think highly likely Leeds and West Brom go down because of finance impact.

B) PL relegate 3 team and promote 3 teams

C) PL say no relegation and promotions, but as compensation give Leeds / West Brom 20-30M - taking the money from what would have been for relegated teams anyway (parachute payments).

C might sound ridiculous but might it be the best option purely on a financial and certainty wise? Personally would like option B.......

After leading the Championship anything less than promotion would be a kick in the teeth . No relegation from the Prem however is more the likely fudge option . I could reluctantly accept that if we go up .

yep, me too, thats how I feel

If we are promoted but no teams are relegated, our chances of staying up might be better, depending on how many teams are relegated next season.
Promotion is better for Leeds. The extra income from TV will give us headroom to spend on the squad and increase the chance of keeping Bielsa.
If we stay down, I see serious financial problems. We already suffer large operating losses which will increase next season because we are locked in to long term player contracts. Playing without supporters will hit our income heavily. Plus it will be hard to sell any players for large transfer fees as has happened previously.

I’d be all for a 22 team league next year, however I’m not sure that relegating five teams is the way to go.

Personally I’d say relegate four and only promote two.

But that’s just my own preference if there was no relegation.

I’d prefer the season finished and think that Germany will put together a roadmap for that once they restart.

Don’t know how feasible it is the further you go down the league, but the top two finishing would be great

The Premier League seems hellbent on finishing the season asap at any stupid neutral ground in any country. I'm waiting for some expert dip5 h 1t to suggest building a stadium in the Antarctic and play there.

The season will continue, 3 teams relegated and 3 promoted as per usual.

If any players get Covid then so be it. The greedy greasy people in charge will soon cover there a 5 5e 5. Especially if someone dies!

Not easiest thing to explain given this is all based on buts and what ifs... what is clear is that clubs will have to cut back on wages, lack of ££ through gate receipts should we play behind closed doors, PL pot money to shrink accordingly... so you are looking at a lot less funding (other than tv revenue) if we’d have gone up in “normal” circumstances. Wouldn’t be harder for us to get players in (see summer transfers for promoted team last few years) to bridge the gap. Don’t thing we’ll be in a position to invest anywhere like that giving us a possibly disadvantage

Also completely agree on the comments with regards to bielsa - must extend his contract but do think there’s a wage cut there to be had too.....

The biggest hit to revenue will be match day income. That hit will be the same for us whether we are in the Championship or Premiership. But in the Premiership most of our income will be from TV revenue which will continue as expected. Therefore the hit to our finances will be much smaller than if we stay in the Championship where the largest chunk of our income will be lost completely without fans in the stands.

As for signing players, we will probably have an advantage should we go up because our wage bill will be covered by the tv income income easily. A lot of sides premiership sides won't be because they will be reliant on the TV money and matchday income. Those sides will need to offload players. While we will have a smaller budget than we would normally have, players might be available that much cheaper that it actually makes it easier to sign them.

Havefaith- fair assessment and some good points there. Whilst our current wage structure / bill will be advantageous, signing players of premiership quality to improve the squad is where we might have issues

Unless sides across Europes top divisions need to offload to reduce the wage bill.

The problem for will be for sides with players on long contracts will be getting rid when other sides aren't prepared to match their wages.
