"Those who are mortgaged to the hilt are fecked. Trying to keep up with the Jones' types will be in big trouble"
======

Good enough for the idiots.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bit harsh

Some people have had to live in expensive areas where their work is. Some might have lost income and their mortgage is now disproportionate.

They might be starting a family and believed they could do without a full time wage for a year or so before part time working.

Many reasons.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The majority like shiney new things.
Mortgaged to the hilt, his and hers Range Rovers on tick
With just enough left over for Spam.

Responsible people look after their families by living within their means.
These dafties go bankrupt and every other cvnt has to pay for it.

I'm looking forward to picking up a new property on the cheap.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here in the South East - the vast majority of families (unless they have inherited money) have no option but to live close to the edge as housing is so expensive.

Of course there are those who do live beyond their means but that is absolutely not the majority - far from it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You don't live where I live.

#HoldFirm Scotland
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And go bankrupt
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Better than dying. The devolved administrations are absolutely right to reject this tory nonsense. If England wants to be a guinea pig then go ahead, we shall see what happens in a fortnight or so. Shameful if you ask me but keep calm and carry on

#HoldFirm
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is it Tory? Is everything in life that people decide all based on their politics? What a way to live

And Scotland nor any other country will "die". They can go bankrupt though and are probably already well on their way>

It annoys fook out me people making general assumptions based on where and what you live in or worse, people wanting you singled out to be taxed more because you chose to direct your earnings into your place of residence.

Very few folk saying 'he should be taxed more cos he takes 4 holidays a year and spends a fortune each time' or 'he should be taxed more cos he's got a cellar full of '61 Lafite' or 'he should be taxed more because he goes out getting pashed every night' etc.

Not missed a minute throughout this.

Work in the only sector who basically never gets a mention in all of this - manufacturers deemed essential from the start.

But aye shout out to all the truck drivers keeping all those goods moving that come from the magic essential goods fairy...….
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you want praise?

I know a lot of people like myself who haven't missed a days work but that is just down to the nature of whatever you do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do I want praise? Strange direction to go with that.....

No of course I don't want 'praise' but I do think my staff, like any other staff who have worked through, should at least be acknowledged every now and then.

Point is there are multiple sectors frequently being mentioned and there are other sectors constantly being omitted.

Manufacturing is hardly a niche area which cant be readily acknowledged yet I have never once heard it being mentioned throughout this.

We have remained open due to direct government guidance from DEFRA and BEIS. And despite putting various measures in place we have had to ask staff to take a level of risk in doing so.

And it is particularly difficult when they see friends staying at home every day keeping safe. Particularly those on furlough who are getting paid to do so.

I am just saying it would be nice if they got a mention and felt their efforts were appreciated by the people they are helping. Anything that could have a positive effect on morale would be welcome.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Couldn't your company give them some kind of bonus, or augment their pay while shutdowns are ongoing?
I'd much rather have that than thanks and a wee bit of applause.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, whilst some manufacturing businesses are indeed rocketing right now (those involved in hand sanitiser production especially), many of the ones that are still producing right now are not coming through this completely unscathed.

Some of our customers are non-essential and have shut temporarily whilst others have been forced to slow down due to Covid related staff/supply chain issues.

As a result turnover and profit is hit, inventory is up due to unforeseen changes in customer plans and we have already had a couple of major customers trying to renegotiate payment terms already - so cash flow might be a bit of an issue in the months ahead.

Not really the time to be giving out extra bonuses to staff unfortunately.
