Best pl team ever...IF

Just a bit of fun to see people's thoughts and wondered, IF chelsea went unbeaten in 2004/05 people would see them as the best PL team ever, or would it just stop the arsenal "invincibles" (lost more games that year than chelsea did the following in all comps) being in the discussion?

Chelsea in 04/05 compared to Arsenal in 03/04 is as follows:

P 38 W29 D8 L1 - 95 pts

P 38 W26 D12 L0 - 90 pts.

Now the reason I ask this is all hypothetical but that season we lost a miracle game which if we played another 9 times out of 10 we would win every 9 at the time.

Chelsea lost to Man city due to a Nicolas Anelka Penalty due to (again) another Paulo Ferreira mistake. One of many that year from him. We absolutely dominated that game and should have scored in excess of 3 goals. Just a freak result even more so than the ghost goal game against liverpool in the same years champions league.

This could all be null and void though if people accept that man city are indeed the best pl team of all time?

Thoughts.

It’s hardly a controversial post.

Finished on 81 points which is quite low and only 4 times has the total been lower.
Only 1 team has scored less goals and won the league.
7 teams have conceded more and won the title.

The league was really poor that year and they benefited from no Europe. I’m not saying they didn’t deserve it. They basically just kicked it over the top for Vardy to score or prayed Mahrez would do something and won it that way.

This.

A great accomplishment and a great team aren't the same thing. There's been worse PL winning teams but they're down there. You could argue it's not even the best Leicester team in PL history, Rodgers team today would give them a game alright

I don't see how calling them weak champions up against the great PL winning teams diminishes the achievement when that in itself is at the core of why the achievement was so historic & unique. If it had of been a great team built up the traditional way through great coaching & investment as opposed to a selection of lower league outcasts, top club rejects & unknown gems it wouldn't have had the fairy tale feeling it did - still would've been cool but not in quite the same way.

You've said it yourself DA, "There have been worse PL winning teams".

The crux of this is acusation that they're the worst PL winning team and comment i find a little bizarre to say the least.

They were comfortably better than our 14/15 team for a start!

I'd agree with that but there's not much in it, it's only for the fact Leicester were more consistent in their performances throughout 15-16, whereas we started strong & trailed off a bit. We still got more points, scored more, conceded less, and the competition was stronger (marginally).

We beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final the season the last time they won the league. Arsenal finished 5th that season. But going by Chelsea fan logic we must be superior

What is this? Lol

trailed off a bit!!!

I think that's being kind to us, I'd say we trailed off a lot and had it not been for Hazards genius pulling our carcass over the line aided by the opposition being so bad, that PL win would not have happened in a normal season!

Thing is a significant part of that was Costa's injuries playing a role in limiting our attacking options, by contrast Leicester had Mahrez & Vardy available for every game bar one suspension for Vardy right at the end when they were firmly in the driving seat. Had one of them got injured it's quite likely they'd have trailed off in the same way cos they were just as one dimensional in attack.

One thing that will hurt Leicester in this discussion was the abysmal competition. Ours in 14-15 was bad but 15-16 was probably the worst, the 2nd place team getting 71pts & the former champions finishing 4th & 10th says it all.

My fault I was thinking 14/15

Lockdown is not good for me brain turning to mush and i'm supposed to still be working

I thought you were going stir crazy as well.

That 14/15 side must have been the worst to ever win the PL.

How we won it I don't know, it was a case of Hazard dragging the deadwood along with him and the competition seemingly not wanting to take us on!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Weren't we exceptional the first half of that season though? Where Fabregas was magic and Costa was scoring and bullying defences for fun?

Hazard struggled us over the line but a lot of that season we were well deserved title winners
