18th of September 2001
Celtic: Douglas, Valgaeren, Balde, Thompson, Lambert, Lennon, Petrov, Mjallby, Agathe, Sutton, Larsson. Subs: Kharine, Sylla, McNamara, Hartson, Petta, Tebily, Guppy.
Juventus: Buffon, Montero, Thuram, Pessotto, Iuliano, Zenoni, Tacchinardi, Davids, Salas, Trezeguet, Del Piero. Subs: Carini, Ferrara, Paramatti, O'Neill, Birindelli, Maresca, Amoruso.
Watched a 20 mins highlight package of the game last night could only really remeber the penalty incident so was good to have a look back at more of the game
What a team we were back in those days, so open at the back mind you Del Piero/Trezeguet and in particular Salas running amok.
Few takes from the game:
Sutton was brilliant, his hold up play and his link up play were brilliant
Lambert was a player and a half him and Lennon went toe to toe with Davids and Tacchniardi and were dominating them at times until Davids got sent off (couldn't remember that)
Trezeguets goals, the first one Salas does brilliant, had Valgaeran doing the canadian barn dance , second one Del Piero does the same to Bobo and Trezeguet scores one of the best headers I can remember being scored against us at first Douglas looks like he could've saved it but when you see the replay its a thing of beauty by the big man
Buffon making an outrageous save from a Sutton header at 0-0
Celtic fans were in good form, heard some really nasty stories about that night from some of who were at the game, the police were taking all coins/lighters from the Celtic fans and leaving them to get pounded by them from the Juve fans
Our penalty was quite soft not as soft as theres but still...
MON interview after it, brilliant. Had to laugh at Andy Walker in the studio after it saying there wasn't enough contact for Amoruso to go down, same Walker who encourages diving every week on Sky
Anyone at the game? Anyone remember anything else from it?
Juventus 3-2 Celtic

Trezequet's goal at Parkhead was a thing of beauty.
They way he strikes the ball makes me weak at the knees.

Ginger, had my youngest boy there as well probably the last time he hugged me was when Sutton buried that volley?
A magnificent night and up there with the Barca and Utd games for me

No back lift , pretty sure it's on his left as well ?? But it's an absolute arrow into the corner
Brilliant technique

Remember that game well.
We were giddy & treble flying after the spirit sapping 1990 decade.
Having a weird warm glow in defeat carried on to Seville 03.
Now we're winning every motherphuking thing.
Sometimes even without playing.
