It's all well and good to say recruitment should be better, but they're not exactly spoilt for choice when choosing police officers. It's not a career most are interested in.

Well then they have to be trained better from now going forward at least. A lot of these officers live in the dark ages but unfortunately even those who look a generation younger than some seem to be picking up the same traits which is where the problem lies.

That will take money and resources which no president seems to be interested in, let alone Trump. What exactly did Obama change in 8 years?

none of them want to fix it.

I was in the usa lots for work.

one place I was talking with a guy who was a sgt in the marines and he was bitter as f about the va and all of that. spoiled his whole attitude.

then there was the guy who was also a deputy sheriff's and working a second job where I was. mostly set up deer traps.

I was in Virginia as well and that was depressing as f. so much underclass sitting round looking depressed in down to Richmond

then Californians were obsessed with cameras and security and such for their mansions and every shop and restaurant were mexican

As for the Gun laws, my Brother lives in Florida and has a Colt under his pillow, he's told me anyone uninvited enters his garden he's perfectly in his rights to shoot them!..

Who in their right mind would sign up to be a police officer in the US though? Their gun laws make the job about on par with joining the army during a bloody conflict.

Not sure what you can do to attract "the right" type of person in that circumstance.

Then even if you've brought through a great group of police officers how long before all the threats from guns (or likely loss of colleagues from shootings) makes them quit.

Honestly it doesn't surprise me at all that a significant percentage of police in America are racist nutters looking for an avenue to get away with abuse. The situation their is completely broken.

Doubt you'll be able to change the police for the better until several decades after the insane gun laws have been changed and the majority of guns are off the street.

You have to think on, its the same as bringing your kids up to hate someone, America grows up with guns and their Police will have the same thoughts in their heads as the criminal and use the protection card in their defence!..
