I’m not. That’s exactly my point. It makes all the sense in the world, so I fully expect us to sign that ginger lad from Newcastle for £65m instead.

I hate Woodward as much as the next man, but in fairness to him in this instance it’s not quite as simple as just going out and signing him. If we don’t get him I don’t think it’ll be his fault.

He gets blamed for not signing players the club didn't make any attempt to sign for reasons that weren't down to him so of course he'll get blamed if we don't get him.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll happily stick the boot in if the time comes, but it’s a bit unfair to preempt his failure at this moment.

If it's deserved I'll happily do the same. He shouldn't get away with anything that's blatantly his fault but I'm not going to blame him when it's clearly not or when there are other factors are involved.

Yeah I know. I think he’s done quite a good job of blurry the lines in recent years with the way he’s restructured the transfer department. Seems like there a few people with a strong influence on the transfer targets, with vetoes, which makes is easier for him to inevitably shift the blame when signings don’t work out.
