loans

does anyone know what is going on with meslier, harrison, white, augustin & grot?

I read somewhere a while back that the FA were thinking of a blanket extension on all loan contracts, but that equally it might come down to clubs renegotiating terms with each other.

I don't think Harrison would be available to play for Man City if he went back now, be wise PL teams have to register squads at the end of the transfer windows. Similar rules would apply with Augustin, I would imagine.

Not sure about White, since I believe players under a certain age are allowed to play without being registered.

Grot will probably return at the end of his loan given the eredivisie has been cancelled, but doubt he'd play any role. I think he might actually be injured atm anyway.

Meslier will probably have to be renegotiated but I can't see what Lorient would gain from not allowing him to come back given that their league has been called.

Dont think it's an issue with white as its under the age of 21 and he is 22.

He wasn't under the age of 21 at the start of the season so needs to be registered.

That's good. Wasn't sure what the exact rule was.

surely the fact that all five of the loanees are training at Thorpe Arch is an indication that they will remain until the end of the season.

To be honest, considering how much a part of the game, particularly at championship and below level, the loan system is I'm surprised the FA haven't actually made a clear statement on it as of yet.

Its hard to say what they will do, however they tweeked the rules on subs for covid they could easily do the same with loans.

Put out a statement saying any loan player can not be registered to their parent club before the end of the current season, regardless of age.

Also make it so that any loan can be auto renewed as long as the clubs are happy to do it.

I wouldn't go as far as looking to punish premiership teams who dont or wont allow teams to renew loans for an additional month or two as overall I think most clubs realise the need to work together, however I suppose you could always look at banning teams who dont "play nice" from using the loan system next season, but that would be difficult to manage and like I said, I dont think you will need to do it.

Hopefully we get 3 matches in before the end of June and have hit 78 points

I think clubs will play ball on this. It will be a horrendous look to be seen to be taking advantage of the situation.

The bigger problem will be with individual players. Izzy Brown is someone that Luton may have difficulty with for example. He is out of contract at Chelsea end of the season and will need a club. Unless Luton offer a contract to him to keep for 3 years will he want to risk injury playing for them and then not be able to find a club? This is obviously even more relevant with a player like him who has had previous bad injuries that took an age to recover from.

What happens if a loan player has signed for a new club, do the new club give permission for his loan to run longer?..

Loan contracts run until the date fix within, and a new club won't want their player injured before he even gets there!..
