Jamie Carragher praising Aaron Wan-Bissaka

After the Manchester derby, He called him the best 1 v 1 defender in the world, And I agree with him, I've not seen someone defend against Sterling like that, Since Ashley Cole against Ronaldo in my opinion - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVFXETgXuVY

Was at both the city games talked about this season.

Said it after the away game especially, not seen a better defensive performance by a United player for as long as I can remember.

Cracking full back with a big future for us

AWB defendings a bit funny at times, looks good when it comes off, but awful when it doesnt and he gives away silly penalties for going to slide tackle too much etc, we've seen him do both.

I dont think having to rely on your pace and last ditch tackles as much as AWB does is great defending either even if he does pull off some nice last ditch slide tackles or w.e. But hes still very young and his reading of the game and decision making will come better with experience im sure of that.

Can agree with carra though one the 1v1 defending, other than VVD there can't be many more you'd hate standing up 1v1 vs, hes got the pace the reach etc.

Sounds like something you've just made up without watching him play. In terms of his United career I can't think of him giving away a single penalty, please correct me if I'm wrong though.

Also most of his tackles aren't last ditch tackles from being caught out of position, he makes tackles in situations where most players just jockey the player because he has spider-legs and can get around the player to get the ball.

It doesn't sound like he just made it up.... it's a fact they he made it up.

He's been quality and can still improve.

Hoping we see a lot more of this, next season:

AWB, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Shaw*

*or Williams
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuanzebe is a monster, I really hope he gets over his injuries because he has all the attributes needed to make him a class centre back.

AWB still needs some improvement in his game but I wouldn't use his slide tackles as a stick to beat him with. It's not axiomatic that defenders only lunge if they have lost control of the situation - the example of that crude Italian bruiser, Paolo Maldini, should temper that notion.

AWB does it more than most because he has excellent timing and long legs, which gives him an opportunity to win the ball in situations where many defenders would be simply trying to show the player into a less dangerous corridor. That's a great weapon to have in his arsenal, especially as he works on how to harness that into quick transitions to attack, higher up the field.

He’s had a very promising opening season. He’s a great tackler and to say thar he’s a penalty risk isn’t exactly true considering he’s given away one pen all season.

He’s also been improving his attacking play which was evident before the break.

Taking everything into account there’s very few right backs I’d swap him with.

There aren't many better 1v1 defenders than AWB if any. I can't think of anybody as dominant in those situations as he is. His tackling is a bit unorthodox at times but it's damn effective.

My one concern about him remains the same as it was when he was at Palace, going forward despite the odd 'moment' before we stopped.

If you look at the best attacking full-backs in the world, they're constantly looking to get forward, beat a man, get to the byline and cross or get in the box to score and they're a lot more confident and consistent in these areas than AWB is.

This is why I'd still like to bring in a more attacking LB to give us an extra dimension in attack.

He probably is, I cannot think of anyone better. It’s not often a player gets past him and when he does he usually gets slide tackled anyway.

Must be such a frustrating player to play against.

Wouldn't say he's the best 1v1 defender I've seen in the world, but he's probably one of the more talented defensive full backs of this generation. What a full back he would have been 20 years ago, its just not the same nowadays. Shame he's limited going forward.
