We should buy David Luiz

I think Arsenal have a one year option on him which after recently I will be surprised if they carry it out.

To me Luiz I think is very good on the ball, tenacious in the tackle, decent in the air and is mobile.

His weakness is he lacks concentration and always has a mistake in him.

To me he would make the perfect defensive midfielder where if he does make a mistake it will not get punished as much.

Get him in on a free and it will allow players like Lo Celso and Ndombele to be more attacking and not worry so much about the defensive side of the game.

Ever since I first saw Luiz I always thought a defensive midfielder role would be perfect for him even when he was at Chelsea.

I realise this is controversial the fact that he played for chelsea and arsenal and the fact he has been ridiculed lately for his woeful performances but I think this is a good short term fix to a position we need to sort out.

Let the abuse commence.........

PS
I have put this on the arsenal board to see what they think, if they just want rid of him or have they ever thought of playing him in a defensive midfield role?

You guys can have him if you want. Sick of him making those stupid unforced errors.

Aside of Luiz playing well or not, you almost never 'fix' an unreliable defender by sticking him in DM. That's a position where mr reliable becomes your middle name, no matter if you are baller like Busquets, and allrounder like Viera or someone who cannot play football like Gatusso .

You use Luiz as a defender and hope he creates more than it costs you, or don't use him at all in critical matches like a certain one against the Germans where even having a Tiago Silva covering his ass didn't help...

Silva was injured or suspensed for that match. Luiz was partnered by the equally abysmal Dante.

Yes let's sign a 33 year old player who is unreliable in his strongest position as a CB and try and turn him into a DM. Let's also add regular mistakes to a defence that already makes far too many. Sounds good.

Why don't you suggest that we dig up a few great old players from their graves.....and prop them up on the pitch?

The "Luiz is a DM" thing is almost as mind boggling as the "Kante's a DM" argument. Not quite as bad (he has actually played there before) but still rife with misunderstanding of either the player or the roles requirements. Two posters nailed it already, the comparison to Xhaka & the DM needing to be 'Mr Reliable'

The only manager whose been able to work Luiz out is Conte (on the pitch that is) & he did it by making him the deepest player in the system behind a lot of cover. As the sweeper of a back 3 he has a point of reference on how far to advance without losing his defensive position, and puts emphasis on what he's really good at in possession which is long diagonal passes. As a standard ball playing CB he's pretty average, his passing choices can be nerve racking sometimes, but he's a phenomenal quarter backing type distributor.

The only Chelsea manager I can recall who played Luiz as a CDM consistently was Benitez in a double pivot, and I have suspicions he did it just to appease fans on his back who'd wanted to see it experimented with
