Derby County 2 - 1 Reading

Pride Park
Derby
At the corner of Greggs

Saturday 27th June
1300

Last weeks display led us to daring to hope.....it was a good display but some of the old lack of concentration at key moments that could have led to a pleasant display almost dissolving into an also ran performance.

Louie Sibley was immense but no more than Ang has been saying for some time now. Maybe we should listen to Ang more? Maybe not
Max Bird is the one that the players are raving about but the old cynical me has seen false dawns before with young players and nothing coming of them. Giles Barnes anyone? Lee Holmes? Will Hughes?

Derby go into this with confidence and clear idea of how they want to play. Reading will be preparing for this and hopefully Derby will have the nous to change their style during the game - a trait that has been sadly lacking in the past.

Was lovely to see regulars back on here last week - genuinely hope you and your families are well and good in these strange times

Apart from Marriot and Bielek don't you think we have a plethora of riches in some positions to choose from? I'm really hoping Matt Clarke will assert himself and make that position his own.

Team news when you hear it.

Ignore the still photos Peeder, not even close to what actually happened.

Apart from going over to the Reading player, he was in the clear.................. until the attempted headbutt.

TL was more Butt-head than headbutt.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The 3rd time was just asking for trouble, he had already been slapped first time, shoved the 2nd, 3rd time he sticks his head in and 4th time gets a dig for his trouble.

Cocu was fuming to say the least.

What a pity that we don't get a follow-up to the match thread - a "for everyone who couldn't attend" sort of thing. A totally serious match report of course......

Heb, are you on about Spurius Lartius from the poem Horatius at the Bridge by Thomas Babington Macauly? My grandmother used to recite it to me.

Then out spake Spurius Lartius; a Ramnian proud was he:
"Lo, I will stand at thy right hand and keep the bridge with thee.".

Bloody awful poem and a favourite of Churchill's who could also recite it.

We are all proud Ramnians.

You won't approve but I have Vitai Lampada from memory.

I am happy for you to remember the poem Heb. These poems of the age of imperialism were standards in schools in the late 19th and early 20th century and I suppose lingered on in the private education sector.

My father could recite the life of Frank Lampard as well as Abou ben Adhem, Young Lochinvar, Grren eye of the Little Yellow god. I suspect it was thought that by making kids remember these poems they would be morally fortified. It definitely couldn't be about the love of poetry. They are all truly awful.

Not necessarily true. I am morally fortified. In times of doubt my standby is The Lay of the Last Minstrel.
