Leeds Utd v Blackburn Matchday Thread

Welcome to the Thread

After failing to convert the possession and chances on Tues night it's a trip for the Lads over the Pennines to Ewood Park and a chance to get this part of the season back on track

Venue... Ewood Park...Date...4th July ...Kick Off 1500hrs

Leeds United
Looks like Stuart Dallas is the only player likely to miss this one Liam Cooper should be available for the game, but it if he does not pass fitness tests beforehand, it is expected that Gaetano Berardi could replace him at Ewood.

Blackburn
Rovers, John Buckley returns from suspension and Darragh Lenihan is back and available for selection which should be a big boost.

However the unavailable list is worryingly long, with Ben Brereton, who had been performing well, suspended for three games.

He joins Amari’i Bell, Derrick Williams, Corry Evans, Bradley Dack and Joe Rankin-Costello who are all out with injury.

There are also doubts about the fitness of Joe Rothwell, whilst Lewis Travis faces a battle to be fit.

(there's also streams on F/book and Twitter I believe )

Match Facts
– Rovers have only beaten Leeds once since 2016, losing on six other occasions.

– In the last seven meetings, the margin of victory for the winning side has always been one goal.

– The last time that Leeds did beat Rovers by more than one goal was back in March 2002.

– There has only been two draws between the two sides since 1998.
(Best i can do )

There you go then, Blackburn plagued with injuries, no floodlights this , theoretically, should be a good chance to get 3 valuable points, so i'm going for a 0-2 scoreline with Bamford and Roberts scoring

I thought we started poorly today but, as the game went on, we seemed to play with more authority and more like we know Leeds can play. I thought the ref was poor. He made some strange decisions. The Blackburn keeper should have been red carded - the ref bottled it with a yellow.

I thought Douglas played really well today. Was he putting himself in the shop window, perhaps? If only he had played like that for us, every game, over the last 2 seasons!

Brentford are the worry. They have won 5 in a row, as we did. We were unlucky that the season was suspended just at that point. Derby are also in good form and I am worried about our trip to them in a couple of weeks. I hope we have got enough points by then for it not to matter and I would really love it (Kevin Keegan) if we could beat them convincingly. Just to get our own back for last season!

The roller coaster continues.

Big improvement today, we defended really poor for 20 mins, but much better after that. Knocked the ball around well and created plenty of chances. Roberts is a lovely player in that role and Bamford was superb.

Pressure still on though, HAVE to beat Stoke

Can't do what others are doing and cheer on another side but no two ways about it that Derby are going to have a huge say in the Title/Promotion run in!

Worst referee I’ve seen in some time

Klich fouled their player for the first goal
Yellow card for ayling was harsh
Failed to send off goalkeeper when he made no attempt to play the ball and was last man
Failed to book the lad who dragged bamford shirt breaking down the right
Over ruled his linesman to give a goal kick when the linesman was right.

I didn't think the keeper was a red card. Bamford isn't getting to the ball, as he has knocked it away from goal. If he had put it over the keeper towards the goal then yes, but think it would have been harsh for what it was.

I think you are right, Lubo. Under Rule 12, the referee has to consider the following:
- distance between the offence and the goal
- general direction of the play
- likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
- location and number of defenders
As you say, Bamford knocked it away from goal. Secondly, there were defenders who were more likely to reach the ball than him, and thirdly, there was little likelihood of him retaining control of the ball.
Good call from the ref, but Would I be feeling so magnanimous if it had mattered more? No.

Initially I thought red but looking again a yellow was about right.

I would have been aggrieved if our keeper had gone for that.
