How far off was all of that? I thought we did reach an agreement on personal terms with Morata?

Maybe.

But no chance in hell we bid 70 million for a second striker that and wasn’t it confirmed that we were never in for Fabinho by the player himself?

The Belotti rumour was very strange. It was widely reported in Italy. I think it was Tuttosport that broke it.

I always wondered if that one was a Torino leak about United’s interest. They were asking for ridiculous money for him whilst there were a few clubs sniffing around.

More Delaney drivel. Literally any of us could have written this article.

That’s football journalism, Process

That’s the standard. And he’s better than most.

Nah that’s the standard of a poor journalist.

Fabrizio Romano doesn’t go on with rubbish like this.

He’s not better most he’s just better a fooling people he’s reputable.

At least some of the others come out with exclusive stories that are correct. Delaney never does that.

Romano, the guy who said John Terry was on his way to Spartak Moscow?

He’s one of the better ones, too, but he’s dropped some real clangers. They all have.

Generally-speaking, Romano also doesn’t publish until he has concrete information. Look back through his Guardian articles. There are very few exclusives in there, and since he’s distanced himself from snake oil merchant Di Marzio, he’s become a lot better journalist.

If you want to find good football writing, look for the guys who don’t even talk about transfers until clubs have made their announcements. Then you might find some proper football journalists.

Put it this way: I won’t trust any football ‘journalist’ (in the loosest possible sense of the word) who spends half their time publishing exclusive/ITK transfer “news” or “updates”.

Here’s a definition of the term:

“A journalist is a person who collects, writes, or distributes news to the public.”

If you’re wrong even nearly 20% of the time, you shouldn’t be able to use the word journalist to describe yourself.

Imagine if you switched on the BBC News at 9pm every night knowing that 50% of what was being broadcast was based on pure speculation or completely fabricated to generate viewings figures.

Was John Terry not close to moving to Russia until pulling a u turn himself?

Romano generally tweets when he has something concrete to be fair.

That’s why I can cope with him. Now he’s removed himself from Di Marzio’s nonsense, it can be worth reading what he has to say.
