United vs Pool

so lets have a look at these two teams

this will be fun.

goalkeepers....pains me to say it but on current form you have to give it to Allison, on his day DDG is a world beater but a few too many brain farts this season. 2nd choice Romero though would put united ahed should the first choices suffer injuries

defence.... has to be Pools, for a few reasons. VVD is the PL strongest cb by far, Gomez gets away with the youthful exuberance playing with him and the full backs are critical to the way Klopp plays. Maguire is very good at some things but certain attributes can be easily exposed, lindelof isn't going to be good enough long term. If 2020 is anything to go by and we are going to play this front style football then question marks over shaw and AWB exist; id say both are better defenders than Robertson or TAA but their out put is drastically behind, I lost count how many times both got into great positions yesterday just to find the first defender.

Midfield.....This is clearly United but with a caveat, Liverpool don't try and play through midfield, they're a workmen, busy, hustling, they have TAA and Robertson providing the creativity or they go long into space for Salah or Mane. the way utd play they need Pogba and Fernandes in there but on paper you would be hard pressed to say any of Henderson wijnaldum, keita, Ox, Milner get in ahead of Matic Pogba Fernandes into the united side. Maybe Fabinho for Matic?

Attack....maybe the crucial decider......Mane and Salah are proven goalscorers, Firmino is an odd one, pool fans swear he's the glue, other fans don't see it.none of his stats really back this up but they watch the team a lot more than any of us have to endure. United young front 3 while ahead of the pool 3 this season in goals despite playing 25% less of the minutes available this season are raw, just as fast, but also prone to serious decision making mistakes and greediness (altho salah is also prone to this)

if united kick on from this 17 game spell into the start of next season it could be somewhat tight. But the squad will also play a factor.

united attacking options today from the bench are Ighalo, Lingard, Mata, James

Liverpool have Shaq, Origi, Elliot, Minamino

midfield for united appears to be McTominay, fred, Periera, Garner
liverpool's: Keita, Ox, Milner

this summer will really be important for both sides especially if the 5 sub rule remains as mooted.

Anywho I look forward to the vitriol heading my way by making rational arguments and statements

In a shocking turn of events, TOOR can't admit he's wrong.

Ultimately it's your choice how you choose to behave and it's my choice as to whether I want to comment on it.

No point in continuing further as you can never, ever admit fault, but compare your response with the two I highlighted as very fair and if you still can't see the difference then more fool you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What would I admit to being wrong about? I made two statements.

1. We have this article too early.
2. You cannot compare so positively United against Liverpool who are English, European and World champions.

Which of these are wrong?

If I were to take a stab at it though, I’d say.

1. We must compare ourselves to the top as it’s where we have been and where we want to return to.
2. 17 games unbeaten, team finally looks proper, PL record for 3+ GD in 4 consecutive games

We can compare against the best. We’re not saying we’re at the same level. The journey is looking similar to what Klopp did with you guys. The most important thing he did was getting you guys to play like a proper team week in week out. Hopefully Ole can do that with us for the entire season next season.

Plus you’ve got to remember that we were performing at a level worse than Moyes! So we’ve gone from trash to very good.

This is PL only

We got 35 points from the first 25 games
9W 8D 8L

We got 23 points from the last 9 games
7W 2D 0L

So we’ve gone from trash like I say to where over the last 10 league games we’ve accrued more points than the deserved champions. As I’ve referred to above where we got 35 points, you guys amassed 73!

It’s a big swing within one season and we’re happy that we’re playing properly and getting results again. We were always so up and down week to week and didn’t get points against the weaker sides.

So I think us saying “we’ll win the league next year” is ridiculous but comparing us to the top team? Nah that’s completely fair.

Yes I have no problem about comparing with the top, I mean it's the best gauge on where you're currently at. My problem was has positively he compared United against Liverpool both in terms of squad and how it could be tight next season, despite the massive gap and the fact Liverpool are current English, European and world champions. It's too early to make that statement. Next season United will look to close the gap but competing for the title is too early, considering the massive gap and trophies.

I do think you will close the gap as Fernandes feels like a massive piece in the jigsaw in terms of the team actually working and finding a balance. A balance you missed in the first half of the season. However you are still short at you still look at positions and think, we need to replace him. You don't think that about anybody in Liverpool's first team.

A couple of seasons of good work in the transfer market and you could compete for the title but for me we are about to enter a very competitive top four period of City, Liverpool, Chelsea and United, in the next few years.

Yeah could be tight.

Tbh I’m looking forward to a consistent battle between our two teams at the top. We’ve not had that in my lifetime it’s either been you or us with only a handful of exceptions.

Don't you have to hand the trophies back at the end of each season, and the competitions start again from scratch the following season? There truly is a massive points gap to try and reduce but whats the relevance of trophies?

He’s referencing the performance and quality of Liverpool whereby they have amassed a huge point difference over everyone especially United and also trophies won.

I think it’s a fair point tbh. If we had won the CL and an FA cup for example we could make a better argument than we can currently.

Yes although I'm not sure what relevance that has. You have to hand the points back also. The point is the trophies versus no trophies as well as the points gap, shows how far the teams are apart this season, it's going to be difficult to bridge that in one season and for me extremely unlikely considering you have worse players, a worse manager and are so far behind, it's going to take something crazy to change that in one season.
