Jeff Hendrick

Manchester United are plotting a shock free move for Jeff Hendrick after the Republic of Ireland midfielder left Burnley upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June.

Is this this summer's McGinn?

just had a quick look at this stats, his overall play does compare unfavourably to eg mctominay - though always tough to adjust for the team he plays for - and his pass success rate is c. 76%, below the scot at 80%, and pogba (viewed as someone who gives the ball away a lot) at 85%. fyi mcginn, playing for a worse team, is at 81%, grealish 85%, and dear old sean longstaff at 79%.

so he does seem to give the ball away a lot, yet without anywhere near the attacking output that would justify that.

still, that hair.

Maybe Ed has lined up a deal with Head & Shoulders and wants a marketing angle...

Maybe he is better for Burnley but for ROI he is bang average. Gives his all but doesn’t excel at anything.

Wouldn’t see any harm in signing him on a free but also wouldn’t see the point.

We’d be better off giving Garner game time or even TFM.

Milner covers this type of role well for Liverpool tbf. I doubt he's as good as Milner though, and certainly doesn't have his experience.

No he’s no where near as good as Milner.

Only tabloid talk anyway so nothing to worry about.

Typical media. United have one bad result so we’ll link them with rubbish now so everyone on social media can comment and tag their United mates saying “oh how the mighty have fallen” or “this is your level now”

i don't think we want to associate ourselves with head and shoulders, given their current football-related advertising campaign.

Jeff can play anywhere across the midfield, I think he can play behind the strikers. Can he sit in and do a holding job? That's not outside his capability.
— Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill on Hendrick's adaptability.[88]

Hendrick is known for being very hard-working, tactically aware and for his ability to pass the ball successfully.[89] He is capable of playing as a central midfielder, out wide on the right of midfield or as an attacking midfielder behind the striker.[89][90] His big strength is winning second balls from aerial duels and keeping the attack going in advanced positions.[89] Owing to his lack of proficiency in scoring goals, Hendrick's most frequent task is recycling possession high up the pitch to create chances for his teammates.[89]

So he's basically Saul Niguez minus the goals.

The person whose 'exclusive' this is got sacked by Goal. I think that says it all.

Sounds like another Lingard to me

What the process said
For ROI he is very average and I couldn't see any benefit in this signing for United

Sign him up Ed on at least 150k a week

If he signs, he signs... If he doesn't, he doesn't.

He will make zero impact for us.

sign him up.

be nice if he brings his long, flowing locks with him too, i feel we've been missing that over the last few years, we've had quite a few afros, but they're different to the beckham/poborsky mane i'm thinking of.

One of the most virile, handsome and majestic manes in English football if we get him. Dank, lifeless, sweaty excuse for a rattail if we don’t. I have never seen his haircut.

No, NO, he might be a decent CM but that is not what we need, we have a few of them already, I wish him well for the future but hope we aim a baws hair higher
