JA606 United board

Bunch of pathetic, predictable, gutless, capricious, spoilt, whingeing children who don’t understand the game of football.

Discuss.

The manner of the defeat is what’s infuriating, not the actual defeat. It was a pathetic display from United. Chelsea played well, but we gifted them the game with amateurish fack ups.

I know exactly how you feel, still struggling to get over the defeat to the Blades.

Liverpool fan in peace...

As much as I enjoyed your loss today, there needs to be some perspective. This was your first loss in 20 matches...and in a cup semi final. Translation: you can focus on getting a Champions League place now.

Plus, by acquiring one, you can then ship out the deadwood and improve.

...but don’t improve too much

There we have it Poolmyfinger with a more sensible perspective than some of you.

Depends what they’re after, really: a quiet rural setting, beach time, golf, culture and food, hiking or biking, etc. If you can give me a few clues, I should be able to help a bit.

Worth noting that if they’re British, unless they have a *lot* of money and don’t mind burning a lot of it on an ongoing basis or they already have an EU passport, it’s about to become very difficult to retire in the EU: unless they have at least temporary residency by the end of this year, they’ll have to pay for fully private healthcare on an ongoing basis, will likely see a whacking tax (could be up to 50%) on any private pensions, will have to apply and pay for non-EU residency visas on an annual basis, etc.

Brexit is going to make retiring anywhere in the EU very expensive.

Cool. The EU passport is the important bit

The Algarve is an obvious choice for a lot of retirees because of the weather, plethora golf courses and beaches, and particularly foreign-friendly (although all of Portugal is foreign-friendly) service industries.

In the Algarve, it’s about finding the right balance really: the further west beyond Albufeira you go, the quieter it is, the slower the pace, the more it’s about the outdoors. The central part and further east is more lively and sociable, and has more expat communities if he’d be looking for people of a similar background.

If he wants to be at the coast and prefers a livelier life, the obvious candidates are the areas around Albufeira, Tavira and Lagos. Inland (20 mins to the coast), Silves is beautiful.

For different vibes, he might also want to look at the Alentejo coast (awesome food and wine, quieter, more authentically Portuguese) and somewhere like Vila Nova de Milfontes or the area around Lisbon (which requires a bit more money but has obvious cultural benefits as well as some awesome beaches).
