Limping towards the end

Watching our performances since that Southampton game, can anyone remember a time in a season post Fergie where we weren’t heaving out of our rectums every single time at the tail end of a season?

‘14, ‘15, ‘16, ‘17 (Christ that one was a chore), ‘19 and now ‘20.

I think it was only in Jose’s second season we weren’t really crawling along the floor, and that’s because we had 2nd spot pretty much wrapped up by December and just had the FA Cup to play for.

Ole said last year his main focus was to improve our fitness after that Huddersfield game. I’m yet to see this bear fruit at the crucial end of another season.

This isn’t a very objective measure though, is it?

Here’s the PL form table over the last six games: https://thefishy.co.uk/formtable.php?table=1

We’re top of the table over the last ten.

If we’re stumbling a little over the finish line, the majority of other teams - including all of those around us in the league table - are barely crawling.

This is very true - it’s only the past week that has caused us this anxiety.

OP

We get it. You are not happy with thee the place Man United are in and you don't rate the Manager very highly.

You must be dreading Sunday in case it actually ends well for Ole and United.

Why not look at our last 4 games instead? That’s a far better indication of our current form. We are all aware of how well we did when we got back from lockdown but it’s the past few games where it looks like we are struggling with fitness which is the issue here.

OK, here’s our last four PL games: we’re third in the league based on that form.

Here’s the last three. We’re #stillsixth, and turning in better results than Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool, Arsenal and Sheffield United:

The only top teams turning in better performances right now are PEDchester City and Spurs.

It isn’t pretty for many of the top teams - in fact, many of the teams in the league right now. And although I agree that we should have used more rotation and earlier subs in recent weeks, we’re on the verge thanks to a startling run of form since the restart.

It's been a calculated gamble and we will find out on Sunday if it paid off.

It's a very unusual season, so I am not sure much can be looked into it in terms of Ole's promise to improve fitness.

It's also worth noting that in a lot of those 3-4 goal wins, we were subbing players quite early on, so it wasn't like these players played every minute going.

We'll know if the chosen strategy worked, We won't know whether we'd have been better off, the same, or worse off had we rotated more over the last month.

In such a case, I, for one, won’t give a flying fack about that particular hypothetical I’m afraid, RR

We'll sweep Leicester aside in a dominant display on Sunday. This is the match we've all been geared up for since the start! Just you see. 1-0 United.
