Pressure and privilege

"I can't say what it is [the pressure of being a footballer] to anyone else but to me, it's a privilege," Kasper added. "That's the reason I play, that knife edge that you play on, that pressure."

"There's talk of pressure in World Cups or in the Premier League - that's not pressure. Pressure is playing in relegation battles in League Two where actual jobs are on the line and the money isn't there to support people's incomes, that's real pressure."

"Feeling that as a young man coming into a team like we had at Bury, for example, where people are literally fighting for their livelihoods, it means the world and is the difference between them having a job and not having a job."

"But playing in the Premier League, playing in World Cups, that's what you dream of and that's a real privilege."

Very interesting point regarding playing at the top level and playing at lower levels. I guess this is something that had helped shape him.

If you read other parts of the article he mentions De Gea and how pundits who have never played as a keeper make an opinion based on no knowledge of playing as a keeper.

He also mentions that due to an English keeper coming through there is something there. This could be from his own experience of losing his place at Man City to Hart (personally I always thought KS was the better of the two and only lost out due to not being English).

There is something that has been built up in the press of dropping De Gea and bringing in Dean Henderson. The question should be if Henderson is ready. The mistake he made against Liverpool would have been highlighted much more if he made that mistake at United. Then there is the style of play to consider. Does he fit or can he fit with the style we're playing now.

Of course, De Gea needs to show that he can get over this slump. He hasn't been the same since the 2018 World Cup. And mistakes have crept into his game that weren't there before. He still has it in him making class saves and stops that go under the media's radar.

I'm sure we all remember Ben Foster and the hopes we had for him. When he finally had the chance he didn't live up to it. I hope the same doesn't happen to Henderson.

you do have a point, everyone wants to be in the CL, but it's not a disaster if you fail to get there, you're just swapping a dozen matches against better teams for a dozen vs worse teams.

but getting relegated consigns you to 40 odd matches of relative disapointment, with no guarantee of coming straight back up, or even at all (swindon, coventry, even took leeds 16 years).

so a CL shootout is nerve-wracking, but still basically fun, the real desperation is down at the bottom.

The problem for us is that this was likely our best chance of actually achieving CL for years. It already looks like Man Utd, Chelsea and probably Spurs and Arsenal will all be stronger next season. And given how far we were ahead we should have had it wrapped up by now, let alone be chasing it.

But no, it's nothing compared to relegation. A lot of people seem to think relegation means simply winning a few more games and then bouncing straight back next season. The Championship is littered with mid-size clubs who hoped to do the same and failed.

As Leicester fans we can relate to this statement from Barnsley FC, in fact we were probably one of the teams they'd have been complaining about if we still in the Championship or Division 1.

I should add, Barnsley have let a number of staff go recently so yes, people do lose their jobs if the team fails, miraculously they have survived pending Wigan's appeal against the 12 point deduction.

I have also been thinking that ddg has been poor but many are simply calling for his head because there is a decent englishman waiting

has anyone of this pundits ever scrutinised henderson's game as thoroughly. When I try to find evidence of such analysis cos I myself have not seen enough of henderson, all I hear are pundits saying ddg is terrible blah blah blah, and henderson has to be given the #1 spot but why?
