I can’t believe we’ve finished 3rd

I’m not saying it as a negative thing by the way, I’m in shock to be honest, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves credit for getting us back to the champions league.

3? You must be kidding, more like 6 at the very least.

We reached 66 pts, do you think with 3 new additions we will reach 80 or 90 pts? No chance

Our full backs need upgrading. AVB on the right offers zero attacking threat. Most teams towards the end figured out, shut out Bruno and Pogba and the creativity to provide to the front 3 is limited as our fullbacks can’t cross or dribble, especially AVB. Shaw blows hot and cold but his hold up play is decent, AVB really needs to learn to control the ball, pass and cross. Defending is great, but not much else.

it is an issue, pogba and matic have really been crowded out recently - there was one great snapshot of pogba in the southampton game, completely surrounded by a circle of 6 saints players - which is when you want the option of spreading it wide to

Yep and notice how much space was offered on the wide areas, yet the full backs were able to do absolutely nothing. That’s a worry. Liverpool were very one dimensional with their attacking play, until they added Trent and Robertson, the attacking threat they provide is immense. Makes such a difference.

Imagine we had threat from not only Bruno and Pogba but also full backs, adds extra dimension in attack, offering more space to our midfield stretching the pitch and opposition have more to think about.

City, Chelsea majorly under performed in the league

Slightly understandable for city where a few shoot throughs 'sat on their laurels' a bit

Chelsea kind of gave up from match day one. Pretty certain that that won't happen again, as Lampard seems the real deal and may well be able to get good players working as a team.

Spurs had a technically good squad, but just didn't seem interested at all.

Conversely, Arsenal tried hard, but have a technically unbalanced squad.

3rd for the current united squad was a lot better than could be expected from a squad that started the season without a proper striker, only one good enough cb and an inability to put out a properly shaped starting xi

Pretty sure those players won't get away with it again - unless major holes are filled.

Still ECL football is very welcome, as recent seasons have demonstrated that well organised journeymen can win it, that reminds us that anything can happen in cup competitions

We also have a lot of promising talent in the academy, I am sure Ole will graduate them to squad level

For me some one like Sancho is a must, Koulibaly also. That would send out one heck of a statement.

Shame we didn’t sign him before the season started and we should have played Greenwood more.

the key is where were those points lost this season.

I think only Liverpool beat us in the top 6 mini league and not by much.

we dropped countless points unable to beat teams who sat back. if you consider since that issue hasn't really reared its head recently, we have Pogba back, Greenwood in the first team and bruno's arrival.

we keep slating the back line but that same back line did the double over Chelsea, city and Leicester. one pacey CB is really all we need back there imo.

more depth for that front 4, hope McT continues his development and maybe another b2b CM like SMS would be lovely summer.

We got a third of our total points from City, Leicester, Chelsea and Spurs. If we can improve the creativity in the squad for the games against the lesser lights we should be in a good position. I think, at the very least, we should be aiming for two points per game average next season.

And yet it wasn't the arrival of the 'proper striker' in January that turned the season around. Ighalo scored zero goals in the league. It was Rashford's and Martial's goals. Perhaps it's time to reconcile your arbitrary prejudices against certain players with objective reality, IAmMe?

Not a priority but if we do get ‘back up‘ fullbacks they should be ones that can attack. See bumblebee tuna’s post for details, awb and shaw are limited attackers, and this takes away a potentially Valuable dimension Of our play- look how important the Liverpool fullbacks are to their play.
