3rd best defensive record

and 2nd least losses in the league

Ok, not amazing stats or anything like that but it shows we are becoming tougher to beat and AWB and Maguire have gradually improved things at the back.

Also, the only team not to concede 3 or more goals in a game more than once this season if I’m not mistaken.

Still plenty more room for improvement but we have become a bit more steely.

We need to do better at defending set pieces. Only Arsenal have conceded a higher percentage:

I think part of the reason is ddg goalkeeping style. I love ddg but he lacks presence and command of the box as he prefers to stay on his line and rely on his reactions instead. From what i have heard henderson is of the same ilk

Haven't seen much of Henderson, but Sheff utd have the least conceded from set pieces.

Arguably down to the coach and defense rather than Henderson.

Coulsnt that be the case with United also?

Fun fact, we finished with the exact same points total as last year. Only then we finished 6th, this year was enough for 3rd.

Having Liverpool's high points count helped us in that manner. We could beat ourselves up about dropping points to a few mediocre teams this season, but we were mediocre at times (pre-Bruno). I'm happy as a cat eating schitt right now though!

David's a bit of a "nice guy" out there. Remember how scary that big Danish S.O.B. was on corners? It was "his facking ball" coming in towards his area, and it was most definitely His area. David's reaction after the little scabby kant Vardy kicked him yesterday said it all. He looked pleadingly at Jamie. I imagine The Dane would have threatened his life! Maybe I'm having "rose-coloured memories" but I don't think Vardy would have even tried that on Peter.

And FFS let's stop playing tiki taka in our area - just dump the ball out and try to get going forward. The PL forwards are on to us and try to nick those passes off.

I agree with the De Gea comment. He's a little too 'nice'. Same could be said of our entire team in fairness really. Especially after Herrera left.

Don't agree with not playing the ball out though. I think we should try to do it but we just need to become better at it and be more careful with our passing. It's a legitimate tactic to draw the opposition out. We shouldn't be averse to booting it upfield though if we have to!

We also finished with 66 points in the 15/16 season. Finished 5th then. Since Fergie retired we have been averaging around 60ish points per season other transit Jose’s first season where we got 81.

Still in order to challenge the top 2 spots, we gonna need to add at least 15 points more a season. Can we do that, may take a couple of seasons and some shrewd recruitment, but hopefully this years promising finish kicks starts a revival to the top.

Next season we really must be aiming for two points a game (76 points) at least. I think that's more than attainable. We managed a third of our points this season in eight games v City, Chelsea, Spurs and Leicester so next year we should be looking for more than 44 points from our other thirty games. Having said that we can't expect the same amount of points from those games again next season though.

Talking of our defence Jermaine Jenas reckons United should be going for Vertonghen on a free.

I wouldn't be against that as a squad player but don't think he'd want to be a squad player at his age and I do think we need a more physical and pacy partner for Maguire in there.

last 19 games - which even then includes quite a few games without pogba/bruno/rashford/greenwood - we have picked up 38 points exactly, so not an unreasonable expectation.

as for vertonghen a lot of spurs fans are saying that his legs are gone, and they're not unhappy to see him leave. whether his legs are good enough to play 10-25 games a season as a squad player, and whether he would want to join us as a squad player, i don't know.

I think 76 points is fair.

As for Vertonghen I've not seen him play recently so don't know whether I'd want him. I wouldn't be averse to getting in a few experienced heads though if they have the right attitude.

I suggested this a few months back and while he could be useful Spurs fans say he hasn’t been good for a while now.

If we are getting a CB I’d rather a youngster with pace.
