The penalty thing

It’s funny how much this has wound up opposition fans and managers.

Jose has had a little pop in the media today.

We’ve had 14 pens in the league this season. The Bruno one vs Villa was the only one you could say straight out was not a penalty. I think there was on James vs Norwich which was debatable but still probably the right call.

The rest were stone wall and I don’t see where the problem is.

Morgan hits Martial’s leg before Evans gets to the ball.

That’s a fact.

The only reason Evans takes the ball is because Martial has been taken out.

You don’t need to be Mystic Meg to work out what TOOR’s opinion would be if this was a Liverpool player.

Evans also takes Martial’s trailing leg out first.

Can't find it. United fans have wiped it from the interweb. I wonder why? Huh?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s on the sky sports app
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it free?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even more convinced now. Evans gets the ball before Morgan even makes contact.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Debatable but even so there is a foul from Morgan in there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Debatable but not in my opinion, however even if there was it didn't affect the outcome as Martial was already on his way down as Evans had tackled him and won the ball.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because Morgan fouled him. The ref arguably booked the wrong player but the right decision was made.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll agree to disagree. Ultimately I think you would have at least drawn thr game anyhow so it didn't affect the outcome but who knows.

VAR hasn’t slowed the game down?

Wow.

Let’s be honest, it hasn’t improved the game. The amount of truly ‘unfair’ decisions that have been overturned can probably be counted on one hand.

It’s spent more time fixing millimetre offside decisions that have no real effect on the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Team A scoring a goal that shouldn't stand undeniably has an impact on the game and is undeniably unfair to the conceding team B, unless you are going to allow team B to score an illegitimate goal to balance it.

Yeh, I’ve had this conversation with you before and whilst I can understand your view, you can’t understand mine, so with all due respect I’m not going to repeat myself without any hope of you appreciating the alternative view.

I can understand your view, it is just doesn't make sense. Fairness is applying the rules equally to both teams. If you allow (via a linesman error etc) one team to score a goal from an offside position, but successfully flag the othet team when they are offside then you are applying different standards to the two teams and this is fundamentally unfair.

VAR helps to reduce (but not eliminate) such double standards and so undeniably makes the game more fair.

People may decide thay any slowdown or delay is not worth this extra fairness, bit to deny the fairness exists is to ignore the evidence.
