Wolves v Sevilla Match Preview [LIVE]

Date: Tuesday 11th August
Venue: MSV Arena
Kick off: 20.00

On Tuesday Wolves travel to Duisburg in Germany for their Europa League quarter final game against Sevilla.

Sevilla had a comfortable victory over Roma in the previous round of the competition winning the game 2-0. They immediately returned to Spain and were on their own training ground the morning after getting fully prepared for the game against their English opponents.

Sevilla have an excellent record in this competition having won the trophy 5 times in the last 9 attempts. However those 5 wins are the only occasions where the club has progressed beyond the round of 16. They have qualified for the Europa League a total of 16 times.

Wolves overcame Olympiacos in the previous round, winning the game by the slenderest of margins and coming under sustained pressure from the Greek champions for large parts of the game.

Unusually for Wolves they will be without 2 key players for this game. Wing-back Jonny Castro Otto will be unavailable due to a suspected cruciate ligament injury and Daniel Podence will be unavailable due to suspension.

Both teams have a good defensive record. Wolves have only conceded 13 goals in their previous 16 Europa League games and have kept 13 clean sheets in the league. In the league this season Sevilla have kept an impressive 17 clean sheets.

The game will be shown Live on BT Sport

Successful career bar Wolves and Koln ie every job he has had outside Scandinavia. I remember saying when he left Wolves he would never get a job in one of the major leagues again but would likely go back to Scandinavia and do well.

The standard of football we were playing meant he was never going to get support from the fans unless we were winning most games and from autumn onwards things went from bad to worse. It wasn’t just the Luton game that finished him, we completely failed to compete in games against Ipswich and Peterborough just before that.

Many will say Terry Connor did worse for Wolves but in those final three games in charge Solbakken’s team had a lower level of possession than Connor’s team 6 months earlier against Arsenal.

And the players he bought in were no more motivated to play for him than the so called bomb squad. Doumbia, Peszko wanted to leave within a couple of months and Boukari was injury prone well before he came to Wolves. By and large the £13m he was given to spend was spent very poorly

You know what, fair play to Solbakken, he repeatedly takes a club from the Danish league deep in to European competition. Its a situation I guess that is similar to the Scottish league, little or no serious domestic competition allowing him to develop a side to grind out results in Europe, developing players who can move on if they show talent. The kid they threw on last night looked decent, caused United a few problems at the end. He walked in to a situation at Wolves that was difficult and wasnt helped by the club holding out for big money for Jarvis & Fletcher until late in the window which didnt give him much time to recruit. His biggest error though appeared to be his man management, I imagine it was the attitude of the characters in the dressing room (as evidenced by the fact that some ended up in the bomb squad a few months later) but he certainly wasnt able to mould the team in his way.

The players that were brought in showed some bright flashes of ability, but none apart from Sako showed it consistently enough to compete at Championship level and many broke down and hardly played. I wonder what he might have achieved given the time that he wanted but the knives were out before the Luton game. The players clearly knew that, I'm not saying they threw the game but they definitely fell well short of a professional performance that day and wouldn't have been sorry to see the back of him.

Solbakken has had a pretty successful career bar six months in Wolverhampton, wrong place, wrong time.

Nice overall review of Stale there Goldi. There are some on here that were never going to give him a chance.

He had a chance and did a bad job. That doesn't mean he is a bad manager elsewhere, but he certainly did a poor job at Wolves; which is all I care about.

The only reason you give him such slack, is because you want to blame Mick for his failings.

They say a good craftsman shouldn't blame his tools. But Stale inherited a bad bag of tools and wasn't given time to renew them and pease don't start me on McCarthy.

End of the day these same players quit on Mick, shat all over someone they apparently 'loved' in TC and revolted against Solbakken.

Further than that, who gives a shat, we are about to face off in one of our bigger games of the last few decades.

Excited, nervous, positive and anything in between

So you're saying Solbakken was a bad craftsman then? I agree.
