I'm not sure where I stand on this. I tend to watch the last of the "last night" of this because it's a pub type atmosphere with two songs I love and make me proud of being a Yorkie, English and British. I've sung both songs when sober and drunk as a skunk, not really thinking about the lyrical content.
Is this a step too far or is it time to consign such songs to the dustbin?

Did people really give a f about this song until the BBC said they wasn't playing it?

From what I can see the Finnish conductor of the Promms said she wasn't a fan of the song, the BBC considered removing it as part of a reshaping of the Promms, they finally decided to play the music with no lyrics.
But a load of gammons think everyone wants it banned, another case of one extreme side making up stuff to find offensive.

And I'd bet that none of these gammons have never ever watched the programme ever anyway

Or know the actual lyrics, it's genuinely hilarious all this.
