Greenwood’s First Call Up For England.

And the first of many.

What a player.

Didn’t think people still believed that myth. The media aren’t a homogeneous entity that have a conceited plan to build up footballers and managers just to knock them down later.

Rashford’s a better player now, as is Sterling. Sancho wasn’t there, nor were Greenwood and Foden.

......

I still don’t think Rashford is that good. His decision making is still quite bad.

That’s fine, but Rashford is a better player now than he was in 2018.

The midfield will depend a lot on the opposition. You’d expect us to get out of the group however we set things up. But we’ll likely play one of Portugal, France or Germany after that. We’re more likely to sit back against France and Germany than we would against Portugal. A creative mid will be needed more against Portugal’s bus than Germany and France.

garth naming so many defenders like hes going to play 5 defenders every game

Not by as much as we hoped though.

Eh? He’s named eight defenders. That’s standard for any squad.

We also can't get them all in the same team. I'd play Foden in a midfield 3 personally. You then have Kane through the middle with Sterling, Sancho, Rashford or Greenwood taking up the two wide roles.

The midfield options are largely lacking, though.

I’d be looking at how to get four of those forwards into the same team. Probably with Sterling/Rashford left, Sancho in behind Kane, and Sterling/Greenwood right.

Then play Mount and either Winks or Rice in midfield.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone plays centrally behind Kane is would be Sterling I would have thought. Sancho has to play wide at the moment for me. In terms of CM, it is of course where we are light but what you hope is that by using a couple of players that may only be 6-7/10 but can keep the ball, like Henderson, Winks etc the forwards we have mentioned and the likes of TAA can do all the damage. The key for me and this England team is being able to dominate the ball where needed. We saw against Croatia what happens when you're chasing the ball for long periods and unable to keep it when under pressure.

Sancho has been absolutely dynamite through the middle for BVB apparently.

Has Sterling even played the role this season?

posted on 25/8/20

I don’t Sancho has either. He plays on the left and right. Dortmund have played a 343 formation for a lot of the season anyway, so even when he’s described as playing attacking mid it’s more that he’s been tucked in a bit more rather than playing in a central position with wingers and a striker in front.

Neither of them will play there for England, and I doubt we’ll set up that way anyway. Nor should we. Just gotta hope Foden and Mount can kick on this season. Doubt Southgate has any intention of playing Grealish or Maddison, he’s overlooked them often.

Foden needs to be playing every week for a start.

He played 90 mins ten times last season, and three of those games were in the PL. Most of the rest were against the likes of Port Vale, Oxford and Zagreb.

Yeah definitely. Hard to say with Mount, given all the business Chelsea are doing. Maybe it Grealish regularly plays through the middle he might force himself into the reckoning, but I just get the impression Southgate doesn’t rate him or Maddison all the highly and we’ll see one of Barkley and the Ox in the squad instead.
