Mason Mount

After being one of Frank's most trusted player last year, making 50+ apperances in his debut season in a number of positions where does he go from here? In terms of attacking positions i think he could struggle for game time with pulisic finishing the season bang in form, ziyech and havertz coming in and CHO offering another option. My big question is can he cut it as a central midfielder? He has the engine and desire to put in a good shift and give us the much needed pressing lampard loves but does he have the positional sense? I think personally id need to see more of him in there to make a decision but he has an uphill battle to displace kante or kovacic

There's going to be a lot of football in a short spacevof time so he'll still he playing once a week at least I'd have thought. If anything I think he was over played a bit last season.

I agree. He won;t play as many games as last season but will still be a key player. Probably make between 30 and 40 appearances.

Provided he doesn't have a dreadful dip of form, I'm willing to bet Mount will get more appearances than any other attacker & by the end of the season people won't understand it & some cynical folk will be calling him Lampard's son

Solskjaer might have the same "problem" with Greenwood next season, not only does Mount perfectly tie into Lampard's idealistic style, and he trusts him having used him for two years, but there's a kindred spirit element to him as a player that I imagine will make Lampard biased (even subconsciously) towards him.

I think it is looking like he could have a role as an important, if not key player which I think is the best role for him

I think he'll play a big part this coming season. I don't like to use the word regular as we have a squad full of good players now so rotation is inevitable and necessary. But his pressing game and effort levels are excellent as well as his attacking contribution and it all makes him a vital cog.

Lol good post d.a. can see it either way.

If he doesn’t play as much oppo fans “classic Chelsea forgetting the youth”

If he does play too much “Lampard has a blind spot”

I can't remember where it was I heard it, but someone likened us getting Havertz to when we signed Ballack despite having Lampard who played a similar role, but how that actually spurred Lampard on to become an even better player, and it's possible Lampard will be expecting Mount to rise to the challenge as he did. Like father like son

Very interesting take, not a terrible one either
