Chelsea - oh dear!

OK, we won, but how awful are we?

200m on forwards, and we depend on a penalty from a defensive midfielder, a deflection form a donkey defender and an absolute screamer from a full back.

Again, I'm waiting for all the deluded defenders of Kepa to come out, but the man is a liability. We will not go anywhere with him in goal. He's bloody awful.

Cristensen, James, Kante and glimpses of Werner were the positives - the rest tripe. I hope we improve and quickly, but I repeat, without a new keeper - ANY keeper, we're going nowhere.

We had one problem yesterday: RLC.

I think everyone is underestimating Brighton. They are very good. If I remember correctly, even though they lost to Liverpool last season, they still had the majority of possession in their game with them. These guys are no pushovers. Plus we had a much shorter pre-season than most teams, and half the team is either new or just getting back to fitness. I had a feeling we would draw the first game - so I was delighted with the result. Performances will improve as we get fitter, and get to know each other. I thought Werner was lightening fast, and it’s exciting to finally have a quick striker.

Further to Suoerbs point. We won 1-3 at Brighton and its doom n gloom. Arsenal beat Fulham who are probably relegation fighters and they are on the up. Brighton took 6 points off Arsenal last season. They are no mugs and certainly more difficult than Fulham. Let's get some perspective.

We can't complain about 3 points and 3 goals away from home.
But,full respect to Brighton, they probably deserved something from the game.

OK. I thought I'd give everyone the time to react. I'm not having a go at Havertz, I understand it's the first game, that Brighton played well ... BUT WE ARE CHELSEA. We are expected to win these games ... and we did. But the same frailties are there, visible to all.

We did our job. Werner looked good. RLC didn't ... again!!!! Kepa

The only thing I will not back down on is that we will go nowhere with Kepa.

At this stage would anyone disagree with that? The club should have been strong and shown him the exit door this summer. That he's still here at the beginning of this season after being as bad as he was last season is shocking.

People really overreacting to a perceived overreaction here

Yes only one game. Yes Brighton were really good. Yes expecting fireworks would've been naive. But it was a bit of a damp squid of a first game from our prospective, there's nothing wrong with saying that.

I'm intrigued, not worried.

ill-advised viewpoint.

Here's a better positive angle....

Instant reponse to (equaliser) setback, James
Defenders looking threatening & scoring from set-piece, in season opener ✔
Won ugly, which this team has been accused of being unable to do ✔
Successfully navigate through a potential banana skin ✔
Scored the joint most goals thus far ✔
Mostly played in second gear (Brighton had better spells) still able to win by that margin (encouraging & ominous...) ✔

Every man and his dog knows Kepa is not of the required standard to be first-choice at Chelsea (including Frank).
Club are actively working to get replacement (Mendy) in, that's been evident for the past few weeks or so.

Yes, we were struggling to string meaningful passes together in possession at some points of the match but that is par for the course at the beginning with existing and new players still learning to mesh with each other (that's what a sensible individual would acknowledge).

Lack of patience from fans (on here & outside of here) and fatuous statements during/after matches nowadays is deplorable.
Win, lose or draw will always have something to bleat about and can never be satisfied.
Been spoilt rotten and it's showing.

Manager has had very limited time to work with players, especially Havertz who wasn't even part of the shortened pre-season (expecting an outstanding performance from him because of price, given the circumstances is bizarre)
Werner looking sharper was no surprise, been training from near enough the beginning (without any injuries).

I expect first few matches will be used as building blocks to get everyone up to speed, for every team in the league due to no pre-season.

Carabao Cup match next-week will be good for the likes of Silva, Ziyech, Chilwell (if fit) and potentially Mendy (If he doesn't make his debut against Liverpool).
