MOTM - Coutinho

A very close match with Arsenal edging out a strong spirited Leeds side. Both teams going with a possession oriented playstyle so it was going to be a midfield battle to get the upper hand. Leeds started off well and Kovacic especially was looking right up for it as he was helping out a lot in defensive duties. Arsenal got the upper hand when a loose ball wasn't properly cleared by the Leeds defenders and Gnabry was there to rifle home a thunderbolt of a shot which Pope could do nothing about. Leeds nearly came back with an instant reply with Pogba threading an inch perfect pass to Kane who opened up his body and curled a low shot agonisingly off the post. Arsenal were getting a bit of joy on that right hand side and got the second when Pereira made a good overlapping run and got to the byline and cut the ball back for Coutinho to smash the ball in. Partey had Coutinho marked but the nimble Brazilian managed to squeeze away from him to find some space. Lubo Biesla was not happy with his teams first half performance and you could tell he went El Loco on his players in the dressing room as half the players looked like they shat themselves when coming back out for the second half (Biesla special?). But Leeds did step it up a gear in the second half. They created some good chances but Leno was having a good game in net and Arsenal were content with the 2 nil lead. Leeds pulled one goal back when a bit of sloppiness from Fernandinho meant he lost the ball and Bergwijn raced through past the defenders and Kounde tackled him from behind to receive a red card and a penalty for Leeds. Kane despatched the penalty and Leeds were back in it with momentum on their side. Arsenal brought on the experienced Azpilicueta to shore up the defence and while there were a lot of substitutions on both sides to bring some freshness into the game, Arsenal held out for the win.
