Watching the first half yesterday and seeing us struggle to get a grip on the midfield in the first half I just couldn't get away from the fact that Davies and Winks were struggling technically.
Neither can do more than make simple straight passes and when we needed them to combine together they just came up short. If you want them to beat a man or operate in a tight area and come out with the ball, then you are out of luck!
Football is not only about technical ability. Intelligence, physicality, and ethic comes into play with a whole host of other attributes, but the blend is important. As these players tend to operate near to each other on the pitch it feels like a massive weakness.
I have a real issue with Winks being in our first eleven. Looking at Ndombele pick up the ball and beat a player to play in Kane and then Son for the first goal, you can see that he is just on a different planet to Winks. Furthermore, when you look at players that we used to have in that position (aka Modric and Dembele) it becomes so apparent that he is limited. This is an attribute that I would have expected him to add to his game but I don't think that he has it in his locker.
Is it just me or am I missing something?

i think Sanchez and Toby is our best partnership tbh. We saw that once Dier was suspended end of last season.
Dier is no doubt a better CB than DM now but that doesnt mean hes good enough at CB either.

We need a quality CB to come in if we have any hopes of top 4.

I still think above everything else we need a quality CM or a DM. It will ease the pressure on the defence and by having someone in there to help PEH we have a better chance of breaking our oppo's attacks. The Serbian at Lazio would be idea or someone like a young Kante.

Winks is a water carrier, he`s not a DM or AM, he does not score or assist, but does have a place in the squad. I`m not sure he should be starting every game though, and I think he can be upgraded upon.
